As long as Waltham exists, I probably can't gripe about the way Watertown folks shovel their sidewalks. H20town folks at least make an effort; in Waltham, the folks on Tavern and Cedarwood have actively blocked every sidewalk they could, including crosswalks (making it impossible to actually push the button to get a pedestrian crossing light without wading into over two feet of snow). And roads are neither salted nor sanded, with no sign of plowing since Sunday.

Yeah, this wouldn't have been a fun walk even if I wasn't walking with a broken coccyx. Took me about twice as long as usual to walk from the bus stop to work.

Seriously. Yesterday, the sidewalk in front of the Brandeis commuter rail stop was a deathtrap; I think I saw three people land on their ass in about 30 seconds.

'Course, this was after I did the same thing, so I could relate.

I used to live in Waltham... and it's always been bad about snow removal. (I lived on a dead end street.... which no firetruck could ever go down in winter...)

Yeah, same here. The street I was on while I lived there was pretty special in terms of snow removal.

The inconsitancies in terms of having people move cars/get towed and getting the streets plowed were irritating at best. Though the little dead end "private street" (which was not marked as such, and you only found out when you had whiny people bitching at you from their doors that they'd have you towed) was always pristine. Bah! :)

Yes! My boyfriend's truck got towed Sunday night. He hasn't lived there that long yet, and I didn't think about it. There are no signs about moving your cars during snow emergencies. Jerks.

We used to get a police car driving through announcing the snow emergency on a loudspeaker, and telling people to move.

But if, say, you were in the shower and missed it? Screwed.

Let alone trying to contact someone who knew where you could put your car.

Oh, the one I was one was near the center of the city, two streets from Main Street. It had once been paved but that was probably a decade before I moved there, and so was mostly broken paving with gravel filled in. It was never plowed, and only had about 5 houses on it, all rental properties.

Yeah, we were right off Main Street as well, so this always puzzled me. I mean, it was a small little side street, but it would have taken less than 5 minutes to run a plow down there a couple times and do it right, instead of the iffy half-assed job they'd maybe do.
