In Japan, the Christmas dinner of choice is KFC.

I had no idea! The whole meal sort of thing -- potatoes and gravy and cole slaw?

I think we'll stay home and eat the chicken I'm supposed to make. Not KFried, but tasty (I hope!).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kfc#Japan

A life size statue of the Colonel stands in front of most stores in Japan. Fried chicken is an especially popular dish at Christmas time and on Christmas Eve many families (who have made reservations weeks in advance), have their traditional Christmas dinner of Kentucky Fried Chicken at home. KFC is so prevalent in Japan that many Japanese unknowingly consider it to be a Japanese company.

Life is stranger than fiction today.

Then again, KFC sounds like a lot of fun right now.

One year on Christmas morning my parents watched Three Days of the Condor. Because, well, it's set at Christmas. We're sometimes a little perverse in choosing films to watch on Christmas: another year my dad and I watched the John Malkovich-Gary Sinese Of Mice and Men. Probably the most mainstream Christmas film we've watched on Christmas was National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. "HALLELUJIAH! HOLY SHIT! Where's the Tylenol?"

Sounds like you're finding joy with the family this holiday. Keep it up.

Which reminds me: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! (Michelle Monaghan in a Santa suit! Before she gets half-naked!) Shane Black likes his Christmas-set movies. (OK, this should link you to a pretty cool interview with Shane Black.)

I'm personally fond of 'Love Actually' and the 'Muppet Christmas Carol', both of which are just pure sentimental favorites.

But you know, there's nothing wrong with sneaking in 'Die Hard' either. ^_^

Bonus Trivium of the day: Home Alone was directly inspired by Uncle Buck.

Obvious in hindsight, but I never drew the connection by myself.

Same writer after all... wonder if Hughes created Kevin specifically with Macauley in mind, but knowing that he didn't want to direct madcap humor again after Planes, Trains and Automobiles. You have to assume he did, since he was also the producer.

Man the fact that so many don't see the sheer JOY and MAGIC of a movie about a Giant Ex-Wrestler Jew who is supposed to be Santa who goes around slaughtering people? So sad. Makes me wish for you to start doing Horror movie reviews again so that their eyes would be opened. Also because I love your horror reviews...
