Why I want to see Superhero Movie
Mar. 25th, 2008 01:31 pmSuperhero Movie, unfortunately, is saddled with a name that implies it's from the creators of Date Movie and Epic Movie. Jason Friedberg and Andy Seltzer, the "creative" idiots behind those flicks, are possible the least talented folks to score studio contracts in a hundred years, and are so enormously untalented that other filmmakers (up to and including Uwe Boll) lose brain cells just by being in the room with them.
Superhero Movie is actually written and directed by Craig Mazin, who directed my all-time favorite super-team movie, The Specials, and wrote the surprisingly funny Scary Movie 3. Granted, lots of the success of those movies rests at the feet of James Gunn and David Zucker, respectively, but it still gives me some hope. Mind you, I'm not going into this expecting anything brilliant (Mazin is obviously sticking to the Scary Movie 3 formula), but it's likely to be a lot more fun than the Friedberg/Seltzer shitfests that have hit the screen (and I'm a sucker for the parody subgenre anyway, as my oft-watched copy of Wrongfully Accused proves).
The presence of Nicole Sullivan, Ryan Hansen, Keith David, and Robert Hays in the cast also makes me happy. The fact that imdb claims there's a character named Stretchy Boy (a shout-out to any Specials fans) is a bonus.
Anyway, here's a clip, with Yet Another Tom Cruise Scientology Speech Parody, but one that works pretty well:

And hey, I love Sneaker Pimps, too.
