You can check out any time you like, etc.
Jun. 12th, 2008 10:50 amI've been up since 4:30 local time. Yep -- still completely on an East Coast schedule. Which would be fine if I didn't have a redeye back tonight. Ah, well.
Anyway, it's 7:30 here, and I've eaten the last of my crappy-but-free Best Western breakfasts. I'm now relishing my last few hours on the crappy Best Western wi-fi (with a two-hour-at-a-time lease, and speeds nearly as fast as a 1200 baud modem).
For those interested in the edutech aspects of the conference, I'll be summarizing things tomorrow or Monday, most likely, with some more linkdumps, as well. Overall, it was a damned fine conference, although not one without problems.
I was amused to find that
underpope was at the conference; for a brief while, I thought I wouldn't manage to actually meet him in person, which would have triggered a sense of deja-vu going back to Dragoncon '95 (I think), when I first failed to meet
katelaity. Fortunately, we did run into each other between sessions, and he's just as nifty in person as on the horror listserv we both subscribe to.
I've twittered a wee bit from the conference, but it's worth repeating here (for the benefit of any search engines) that the South San Francisco Conference Center has the worst wireless connectivity I've ever attempted to use. They also don't impress in terms of food, offering crappy box lunches, a "gourmet" $49-per-person dinner buffet that was meh, and bananas that are at least three days away from being ripe. The coffee was good, though.
Today's plan: Check out. Take shuttle to airport and store luggage for a few hours. Take expensive BART train to Civic Center and hit the Asian Art Museum, and maybe the indie comic shop in the same neighborhood. Then head back to the airport for dinner/reading while waiting for the redeye. Fortunately, 'song loaded the Kindle with Farthing, which is one of those Books I Kept Meaning to Read, and which is, seven chapters in, nothing short of superb.
Once I get back, I intend to crash on my bed and cuddle the cats until 'song and Elayna get home.
