When does NBC's Olympics contract run out again?

It's pretty sad when I think that FOXSports would do a better job than, well, anybody. But I do think that they'd do a better job than NBC.

So much for the honor system.

I'm watching the US women beat NZ in football on the BBC. (It's one of six options.) I thought I'd watch the final seconds on NBC (see if they'd let me in with my IP address -- I'd use my old zip code and try Comcast :), but first I have to install Silverlight as I'm using Firefox. Oh well.

They figured out I was outside of the US. Darn it. Oh well. I can't watch the US Olympics and may only watch the multi-national Olympics. ;)

Damn. You're stuck with the US only Olympics then. ;)

I haven't had need to mess with this myself, but can't you use a proxy to disguise which ISP/Country you're coming from? I've seen other people talk about doing this...

I don't know how to do that. Tell me how, please. (I'm not that desperate to seek it out. I can watch the NBC Nightly News here at 11.30pm on CNBC or the CBS Evening News on Sky News at 12.30am, and I mostly watch them to remind myself how poor US news coverage is. Watching the NBC Olympics would be to remind myself that the BBC coverage is superior and far more, well, wordly. ;)

Sorry; as I said, I've never messed with that myself. I'm not watching the Olympics (http://allah-sulu.livejournal.com/825730.html), nor have I yet had any other problems of this sort (since I generally download things I want to see for later perusal, rather than watching things live and streaming).

And I never have the time to watch things later -- I don't even use the DVR much any longer, except for Dr. Who sometimes. (But I usually catch it on BBC3 later in the week.) If I don't catch it live, I miss it -- no time for it later But it's different here, as shows tend to be repeated later in the week or even an hour or two later on a +1 channel.

Yea, NBC's verification process sucks. I put in my zip code, pushed "Comcast", and got "This provider does not service your area." Uh, what? Listen, I know Patriot Media got bought out by them, but that was *SIX MONTHS AGO*, so you should probably have it updated by now...

So, I instead punched in my friend's ZIP code and selected Verizon FiOS (which he has).

The streaming is mostly fine, except for one little teensy-weensy issue: they refuse to stream anything that may be on TV. Which is really annoying, because I only get the main NBC channel, not the 3 or 4 other channels the games are on, so I miss stuff. Plus, the whole thing last night about showing a little of the gymnastics, then cutting away for an ENTIRE HOUR to show swimming (including more sap stories about Michael Phelps, who's apparently the only US athlete in China), meant that I couldn't watch any of the other gymnastic teams do their routines.

I just learned how to use proxies (http://blog.cruachan.ca/using-proxies-to-view-restricted-content/) myself. (I'm in the US but wanted to keep playing Scrabulous.)

Interesting. Might play with it sometime. Thanks!

I hear and respect that.

But NBC has John Tesh covering "women's" gymnastics. He sounds like a pederast every time he opens his mouth. Major sleaze factor, on top of Tesh's career as an "easy listening" "artist".

I'm serious: even Joe Buck would be better than that. (Just keep Tim McCarver out of the booth.)
