Q: Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Sarah Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.

Christ on a fucking bike. Aside from the sexism and shallowness involved, you know why the whole series of news stories about Palin's family annoys me?

Because it obscures important shit like this.

I'm sorry, but if you think the Pledge was written by the Founding Fathers (or even in their lifetimes), or that the phrase "under God" was in the original pledge, you are too fucking stupid to hold major office in this country.

Wait, you want a cite? Well, up until a few hours ago, you could find it on the Eagle Forum Alaska blog.

But you can't now.

Unless, you know, you use the fucking Wayback Machine.

Eeep! Ignorance! The Founding Fathers would have so totally banned
using the Pledge of Allegiance if someone had suggested it.

And even In God We Trust...
They didn't even put it on the coinage till very near
the time of the Civil War
and there was a massive fight over it using it.
(the phrase "in ceiling cat we trust" :)

I love how the first question in that survey is multiple choice, but she answers it fill-in-the-blank style so that she can pontificate on what a good pro-lifer she is.
