Friday: Was our wedding anniversary! Woohoo! Yes, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I have been married for over four years now.

I took the day off from work, and we relaxed around the house for most of the morning. In the afternoon, we hit a Men's Wearhouse to get fitted for my Tux. The problem with getting fitted is that you often get told facts you don't want to hear. Like your waist size. This is just one of many reasons I oppose formalwear.

We then hit Borders for a bit (because there are two kinds of people in the world: ones who think that browsing a bookstore is romantic, and people that neither 'song nor I could imagine dating).

We followed that up with dinner at Ivy, which was quite nice. Food included a lovely cheese tray, arancini stuffed with fontina and black truffle (which were yummier than I expected, as I'm not a huge fontina fan), butternut squash ravioli, and a porterhouse. Dessert was the panna cotta ice cream "drowned in espresso." They weren't kidding; instead of an espresso sauce, it was literally a cup of espresso poured over the ice cream. The entire menu was tempting, although I found the dessert menu less interesting than the small plates.

After that, we walked up to the Orpheum to see Great Big Sea. This had to be our sixth concert of theirs, and it was my favorite. We had second-row center seats, which made for an amazing show. Nearly 30 songs (more, technically, if you count the montage that closed the first set), including an incredible version of "The Chemical Worker's Song," an insanely fast "Mari Mac," and a five-man (with drummer Kris on chorus, but not the rest of the song) rendition of "Old Brown's Daughter" done in front of the stage without mikes to close the night. Other favorites that got played included "Old Black Rum," "Straight to Hell," "When I am King," and "Company of Fools." "Helmet Head" has become a perfect example of a mediocre album cut that gets turned into a wonderful live performance; I think it's been on the set list for every show I've seen since it came out. Really, there wasn't a bad song in the set. Hell, there wasn't a non-great performance in the set. And as always, the boys had incredible stage presence, and just gave off a sense that they really love what they do.

Saturday: We were fucking wiped after the concert. Crashed for a part of the day. Elayna went to a Girl Scout event and a party, but we stayed home and mostly caught up on Tivo (

Sunday: Elayna and her friends played in a Halloween Larp, written and gm'd by [livejournal.com profile] mllelaurel, which they loved, and then Elayna hung around with two of her friends for a while. We ordered Chinese food and had a nice slow, relaxing night. Except for the part where a transformer blew, but the power outage was brief.

Hooray for wedding anniversaries!

And belated congratulations to you! I would have sent congratulations on the day, but this is the first time you've posted about it since then . . .
