There was a damned fine single by Peter Wolf called "Come As You Are." And my knees hurt just watching the video.

The song hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts, and #15 on the Hot 100, but way too few people I know seem to even remember that Peter had a solo career (or even that he was the lead singer of the J. Geils Band during the period of the band's history known as the "successful years").

Ah! The things you learn. So, in essence, Bobby Van is getting ripped off in music videos approximately once every twenty years... ;)

Oh, man, I totally remember this one, video included. If memory serves, though, this was Peter's solo career.

No, there was also "Lights Out" (which, according to Wikipedia anyway, reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, higher than "Come As You Are"'s #15).

I think a big part of the reason nobody remembers Wolf's solo career (such as it was) is that the album Lights Out went out of print early in the CD era and still hasn't been reprinted. Used copies are as "low" as $80 on Amazon right now. Way to make people look for pirate copies, guys.

I remember that song. Haven't heard it in ages.
MTV used to play it back when they actually played music videos.

See what I missed by not having a television in the '80s?

A song called "Come As You Are" where everyone is dressed in thirty-year-old fashions.

Thank heaven for the black woman pushing a baby carriage; otherwise, the only non-white face would have been the town drunk.

Ah Peter Wolf...

Another little factoid about him: he was once married to Faye Dunaway...

Highly rated on my ipod, and the video always shows up in my brain when I hear the song.
