Robocalling: Ur Doing It Wrong
Oct. 29th, 2008 06:21 amJust checked voicemail.
Had a robocall message from Saxby Chambliss, telling us that Jim Martin is a liar.
There are a few problems with this.
LIke the fact that Chambliss is possibly the least ethical man in the Senate, a man so scummy that John McCain condemned his 2002 campaign. He wouldn't know honesty or ethics if they bit him in his ass.
Or the fact that he's hypocritical enough on war and immigration issues that he stands out even amongst his peers in the Senate.
Or the fact that he even feels the need to campaign this hard in a red state and a seat that should have been safe.
But the biggest problem, of course, is that I couldn't vote for Chambliss even if I smoked five tons of crack and wanted to. You see, Chambliss is running in Georgia, and I live in not-quite-neighboring Massachusetts.
So yeah, the RNC money isn't just wasted on Nieman-Marcus trips. It's also spent on long-distance phone calls to non-voters.
(Aside: I've gotten no calls at all for any local candidates, although it's not like I'd change my mind on any of them at this stage in the game.)

Date: 2008-10-29 01:38 pm (UTC)My friend called the number and told the Martin campaign about the robocall, and that the call had convinced him to vote for Martin.
He told me that he had actually been planning to vote for Martin anyway, but that the robocall was so sleazy that it made him want to "blame" his vote on it.

Date: 2008-10-29 02:01 pm (UTC)Fer crine out loud, even Palin says robocalls are annoying and do more harm than good. How stupid do you have to be to get that wrong? Stupider than Palin, apparently.
I actually answered a political poll the other day. I told them that I'm conservative by temperament, and was planning to vote for a Republican state senate candidate (the focus of this poll), but that the anonymous attack ad mailed to my house convinced me that I should not reward that party's behavior.
I hope it makes a dent.

Date: 2008-10-29 03:30 pm (UTC)I also told my wife (who lives in Missouri) that I'd been checking our landline phone and knew all about the other man in her life. When she asked what the hell I was talking about, I replied, "Don't be coy with me. I know Bill Clinton called last week and invited you to a 'personal meeting' in St. Charles!"
