Weather.com changed the default layout for the "hour-by-hour" view to a fifteen-minute view. Which means that when I clicked on the "hour-by-hour" weather link this morning, I was treated to a page full of nothing but "wind/clouds," and foolishly assumed this covered the next eight hours, not the next four.

The next four, incidentally, contain the rain.

Fuckers.

In other news, Accuweather.com's Hourly forecast is actually, you know, hourly. Guess which website I'm switching back to?

I like their site, but I do like getting a good hour-by-hour forecast, and I'm not seeing it there.

Uhm you can switch away from it by clicked the "15 minute details" at the end of an hour and it collpses. So they are just giving you more available information that you can turn the hell off if you want.

Except I never asked for that info, and at a glance, it looked just like the regular hour-by-hour info that I'd expected and had received as recently as last week. And I'm getting rained on as a result. If they'd actually given me eight hours of expanded info on that page, I wouldn't have minded as much (and would likely have actually noticed the change, since scrolling would have taken longer). It's bad design and rollout; better ways to do this would have involved either changing the link name (to something that reflects the change), or making the quarter-hour updates the item that a user should turn on, not have to turn off.

Oh now let's be fair. If they had it so you had to turn it on you would be annoyed that you didn't notice it and why couldn't they make it clearer so you didn't have to FIND it?

Nope. I require two things out of a weather site on a daily basis -- a quick overview of the day, and an hourly breakdown. Anything else is gravy.

I noticed the changeover as soon as it happened. It's not like the time increments aren't labeled. I do like the graph option they have now in addition to the description, though. I use it mainly at work, though, where temperature monitoring and forecasting has a big impact on planning equipment starts and stops. I like it better now.
