Vericon has the advantage and disadvantage of being a tiny con. Only a few panels (on the first two days only), lots of board gaming, an anime room, a damned fine con suite, and (because it's on the Harvard campus) no real hotel presence. OTOH, they bring in some big-name guests of honor (Orson Scott Card last year, Kim Stanley Robinson this year), and I believe they pay for travel and housing for all guests (if I'm recalling what yuki_onna said correctly). Last year had a panel of YA folks -- Sharyn November, Lois Lowry, Donna Jo Napoli, and a bunch of others) that was incredible.
We like it because it's not only local, but a nice, relaxed change of pace from Arisia.
