Darth Vader
Tall, powerful, and the darkest of the dark. You've got armies, fleets, and the dark side of the Force wrapped around your little finger, but you still have a soft spot for that little wuss you call "son." How sweet.

Take the Imperial Test at Bucketheads!

Well, cool. Alas, looks like my man Boba wasn't an option (which is fair, since he was a freelancer).

Anyway, another pointlessly insomniac night. Dunno why. I'll definitely head to bed soon. And I really intend to post a real journal-type entry sometime soon, like maybe even tomorrow (aka later today). I'll rant and rave about Megacon, and about how a question I asked lead, eventually, to all sorts of flames and gnashing of teeth on http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=13&t=000831 which makes me feel pretty powerful (if anonymously so). And about 'song's comic and the nifty reception it got. And about work. And other fun stuff.

So, I clearly won't get my act together enough to really rant on Megacon, but a few memorable things from the weekend:

First, after a series of events too convoluted to write up, 'song finally got the comic in ashcan form! And she got copies in the hands of Jamie Rich (editor in chief of Oni), Jen Van Meter (writer of Hopeless Savages), the folks at Sequential Tart), Brian Michael Bendis, and Kevin Smith! She also sold (as in, got people to pay good money for) three copies, all to artists who are a part of Failure, a nifty collective of comic artists. And everyone who has commented on it has liked it! And Jen gave 'song some nifty advice, and the Sequential Tart folks have said it will definitely get reviewed. So things are good on that front!

Sequential Tart had an amazing table at Megacon, giving out what must have been thousands of free comics, ranging from indie to mainstream, all just to promote various titles. We walked away with at least thirty comics from there, and the stuff we already had (and that some lucky bastards will get to try for the first time) included things like Finder, which is still one of my favorite comics ever.

One of the comics we became addicted to as a result of SQ was Dork Tower, which is amazingly funny. We bought both trades that weekend. Anyone who has ever gamed needs to read it.

The Crossgen thing I referred to last night is that I was the one who asked the Mac question in the panel, which led to Marc Alessi giving an answer that was both rude and technically inaccurate. Since then, they've let people with more knowledge and tact speak for them, and it turns out that I can read their comics on the web right now with my OSX box. :-)

Other nifty things we bought include the third Barry Ween graphic novel, various issues of PVP, Nodwick, lots of nifty stuff for Elayna (including a signed Powerpuff Girls print, by the artist who does the comic), complete runs of Red Star and Violent Messiahs, lots of Spider Man movie swag (including a Daily Bugle Press Badge), lots of sketches (including ones by Sergio Argones, Bendis, George Perez (which we paid for, as the proceeds went to ACTOR, a charity for supporting medical needs of comic professionals), Oeming, and some other folks who I can't remember right now), and an entire suitcase worth of comics and graphic novels. We had fun, and spent way too much money. :-)

Lessee. Watched Angel on Monday, Buffy and Smallville yesterday (still have Gilmore Girls taped). Angel was fun, but the angst with Gunn and Fred has to end (or stay more offscreen). Buffy was decent (if labored at times), and I'm really psyched for next week's ep. And Smallville was a blast -- It was nice to see Whitney get his turn in the ambiguously gay spotlight, something that's been hinted at since the episode with the salesman a few weeks back. At this rate, Pete Ross may be the only straight male at Smallville High. Too bad sweeps month leads right into rerun week. :-(

Now back to work. I've gotten my inbox below 150 messages again! Woohoo!
