So, it was time for [livejournal.com profile] deza, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, Mike, Thomas, and I to roll up characters. Mike was already here, Elayna had just gone to bed, and we were sitting around talking and flipping channels. I turned on the game, and saw that there was a rain delay. So I peeked through the blinds, not having heard any patter of raindrops.

And there, sitting on the power line across Lavista, was a burning branch. We opened the door to get a better look, and I ran to get the cordless phone to call 911. Before I could do so, there was a HUGE explosion, and the lights went out. Following by the lights starting to go back on, and another explosion. Followed by another one.

The house was now totally dark. Elayna was awake, of course, and we were comforting her. I got flashlights, and 'song got candles, and we set up camp while I dug up a non-cordless phone and called 911.

Mike and I took a look outside, and nothing seemed on fire or damaged, thankfully. The branch had gone out, as well. We figured it had caused a transformer to go all wonky. We saw a fire truck drive by, and saw that the traffic light was out.

After a few more minutes, it occured to us that although the fire department knew about the outage, GA power might not, so I dug through three phone books with the flashlight and found their emergency number. From there, I spoke to a very nice man who assured us that the power should be on within half an hour, unless something was seriously wrong.

In the meantime, Thomas arrived, Elayna attempted to catch fireflies, and the pizza we had ordered arrived. We attempted to put Elayna to bed again (to no avail, as she was still too scared), and set up the pizza and dug in. Soon enough, we saw the truck with the cherry picker outside getting the branch off, and about twenty seconds later, the power was restored. Huzzah!

Elayna was put to bed (with the cat staying with her to protect her), and [livejournal.com profile] deza showed up immediately after, which allowed us to introduce her to Elayna (who didn't pull her shy act, even). And then we finally settled down to roll up characters. Which I'll detail when I get to work, unless [livejournal.com profile] shadesong does so first.

Chud.com is reporting that they're not only remaking Clash of the Titans (which was a flawless movie to begin with, and doesn't need remaking), and taking out all of the scenes with the Gods. Feh. I spit on this remake. More than I spit on most remakes, even.

Yum

Chud is also reporting that Kelly Hu, who was lots of fun on Marshall Law, and who got strangled by Jason in F13 Part 7, will be a villain in X-Men 2.

Hee. I had one question that I flip-flopped on, leading to a choice between
which Jhonen character am I? )

What a shock -- the scum-sucking company from Redmond is trying to take advantage of the fear of terrorism. They've funded one of those bs think tanks to release a study saying that open-source software supports terrorism. You can read about it over at http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/25569.html

That sqeulchy sound you're hearing is John Ashcroft creaming in his pants over someone having more chutzpah than he does.

Woohoo!

The Advice feature on Amazon -- the one I bitched about a couple of weeks ago because various Christian groups were going and recommending all sorts of non-relevant Xtian books against horror novels and the like -- has been suspended. Amazon claims it's because of "commercial abuse," but I don't doubt cases like this were a factor as well (and I don't doubt that others complained too).

Annoying -- my stomach has been kinda queasy all day. Not in a "oh my god, I need to puke" way, just bad rumblings. I don't wanna be like this when I fly.

Saw the Disney Tarzan the other night for the first time, and had a very disturbing thought (so disturbing that [livejournal.com profile] shadesong wants it livejournaled):

Tarzan hit manhood still believing he was a gorilla. Wanna bet that someone has written a fanfic (can't technically call it slash) with Tarzan and Turk? I mean, as far as he was concerned, she was a female gorilla and his closest companion. I'm sure nature must have taken its course.

And no, even if the fic is out there, I'm not interested in reading it.
