I'll be offline most of the morning. The head of Elayna's PTA called yesterday, and wants me to meet with her and the school technology person to go over how FirstClass can be used effectively (or more effectively than they're using it now, which doesn't take much). My own bloody fault for signing up to be on the technology committee.

Woohoo!

The EOL CD is in a FedEx envelope, awaiting pickup! Other than documentation, all the work is done! Yay!

Now I can worry about LearnLink and back-to-school and all the other stuff on my list. Back to square one!

Great.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] metaphorge, I had to hit the "hip-hop" playlist on iTunes.

I'm now unlikely to get any real work done for the rest of the day, because I'm using all my powers of concentration to avoid singing along to "Baby Got Back."

Dial 1-900-Mix-a-lot, and kick them nasty thoughts.

So, of the three good critics out there, only Roger Ebert actually got to review Signs. His review is at http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-signs02f.html and it's a rave.

And unlike most critics, he's capable of writing a review without spoiling the movie (he makes some oblique references that folks who have already seen the film will get, but that's all).

Now, I'd like to know what the fuck the editors at EW and the NY Times were thinking by not assigning Lisa Schwartzbaum and Elvis Mitchell to this film.

So, since [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl and [livejournal.com profile] shadesong are going to a Girl Scout Leader training thingee tomorrow, I figured I'd do my writing then. So tonight became Errand Night.

Errand #1 was returning toys to Toys "Backwards R" Us. Doubles and triples and stuff that was not appropriate for Elayna in the first place. We got credit for something like $55 (which is for Elayna, not us!). The tough part was resisting buying anything in the store. There's this entire series of Stan Winston figures, and He-Man, and other nifty stuff. But we made it out without spending any money.

Errand #2 was Target. We needed to get picture frames, extension cords, a storage drawer for Elayna's Barbies, and magazine holders for Elayna.

After getting all of that, Mousegrrl needed to shop for some clothes. While she was doing this, I hit the men's area, and found awesome boxers -- they're South Park, with Stan, Kenny, Kyle, Cartman, Tweak, and Towlie! And it came with a Towlie keychain! Since I'd had two pairs rip recently, I needed these!

I'm way too obsessed with boxers. I own three South Park boxers, a pair of Rockie and Bullwinkle, Spider-Man, Batman, two Harry Potters (I'm wearing the Hogwarts pair now), Dilbert, Spongebob, and lots of others. I blame my obsession entirely on never owning underoos while growing up. Parents, if you want to prevent your kids from having an expensive boxer habit when they grow up, buy them Underoos now!

Fortunately, it's a tax-free holiday in GA, so we managed to save a few bucks at Target.

Errand #3 was Book Nook. When [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I moved in together last year, we had literally hundreds of books, cds, videos, and dvds that were duplicates (and a few that we just wanted to get rid of). We started to sell them on half.com, and moved a bunch. But after a while, they stopped selling. And nothing's moved in the last six months. We've had five boxes of stuff just sitting in our living room.

So we finally went to Book Nook to trade them in. The last time I traded there (eight years ago), you could only get about five cents a book, so I figured we'd go for credit. But their policies have changed. We had the choice of $93 in cash, $130 in pure credit, or $40 in pure credit and $200 in half-price credit for books. Had we been in a good cash-flow situation, we'd have gone for the last, but frankly, the money was really really tempting. So we went for it. However, we also bought a few books (because this is an awesome used book store, one that I've spent literally hundreds of dollars in in the past, not helped by the huge selection of comics and toys). So we walked out of there with:

Never After -- Rebecca Lickiss (the only new book)
Wise Child -- Monica Furlong
The Harp of Imach Thyssel -- Patricia Wrede (Imach Thyssel may be Yiddish for "Gray Rose")
and
The Raven Ring -- also by Pat Wrede.

and $80 in cash.

A damned good trip. :-)

And now I'm sitting at the computer, eating garlic-flavored pickles and Crystal Light (yes, I'm sure I'm not pregnant, thank you very much), and finally catching up on LJ. :-)

On the sucky side, I seem to have really twisted my ankle, something I didn't notice until getting home.
