For those who haven't seen, [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl has taken my Revolutionary Tank Girl Utena idea and run with it! Check it out on her LJ!

(oh, and the soundtrack for the RTGJ movie, of course, would feature music by Everything But the Velocity Grrl and Veruca Salt'n'Peppa)

Yesterday, I took Elayna out to get more fish (since her only fish -- a goldfish she won at her school fair -- was lonely in a large tank) while [livejournal.com profile] shadesong got some writing done. Turns out that the fish she had originally wanted (something with Mickey Mouse in the name) don't work well with goldfish, so we had to choose another type of goldfish. She looked over all of the fish, and pointed to one that she liked best. I looked at the label.

It said, "Redcap."

Yes, our daughter bought two redcaps. She's never played Changeling or Ars Magica, never read Mage or cdl's Jack the Giant-Killer. But she still chose fish named after evil Scottish creatures. Gotta love her.

I've done a buncha goldfish research this morning, too. Gotta love work web access and unlimited printing.

On the gerbil front, Elayna has renamed "Woody," (the not-as-male-as-we-thought momma gerbil) to Lexi. She's chosen names for some of the babies, but the names seem to vary ("That one's named 'Stays with poppa,' because he's always with Freddy" is a phrase that's been used to describe at least two or three of them), and until we end up figuring out which one(s) we're keeping, I'm not too worried about their names.

No news on the cat front. The teddy bear that Max was mounting is now out of the house. I'm assuming he's having his way with the couch pillows at night, as he used to.

My latest column is up at http://www.chud.com/news/aug02/aug9comic.php3

It was actually up a few days ago, but Nick had it credited to the other comics writer. That's fixed now. When you don't get paid for your writing, you damn well deserve credit for it. :-)

Both [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I have been feeling a bit ill today -- I think we've got a touch of some sort of stomach bug. So we were already drained on getting home and picking Elayna up from her first day of school (which she loved -- two of her after care boyfriends from last year are now in her class!).

'song and [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl had a Girl Scout thingee to go to, so they were in a mad dash to get things done before heading out.

Alas, Elayna managed to get a splinter, which led to untold agita, as 'song and Mousie were trying to get ready. All this while 'song and I were still feeling sick.

They left when Elayna was eating dinner, and even though Elayna swears she never promised to call her grandma (something that's untrue, but I think she's misremembering, not lying), she was willing to do so with some persuasion. She called at 7, and I figured it would be a five minute call, given her reluctance.

Imagine my surprise when she talked for half an hour. Since she's so phone-shy, I wasn't about to try to get her off the phone, but I still needed to take care of getting her to eat her vitamin (we've switched to nighttime, so she can wash it down with desert), give her desert, have her go potty, take a bath, and brush her teeth. All by 8. Not a good group of things to cram into half an hour, especially when I wasn't feeling very chipper or energetic.

Amazingly, Elayna was on her best behavior. Only mild vitamin protesting, no protesting about the potty, bath, or toothbrush. She was in bed at 8 on the nose. She was a little bit clingy, but I managed to escape her room by five after.

I did some writing, but now I'm fucking exhausted.

So I'm off to bed. I owe so many of you comments, it's not even funny. I'll leave those comments tomorrow. I swear I'm not ignoring you. Really. I'm just wiped.

g'night.
