So, remember how I said I was going to bed around 9 last night? Didn't happen. Illness kept me up until 1. And since I need to go to the noon meeting today, no calling in sick.

On the plus side, I saw MuchMusic playing Insane Clown Posse's cover of Sly Fox's "Let's Go All the Way." It's official. Every '80s song has now been covered.

So, what's worse: The fact that I could write a post last night that was total gibberish, to the tune of having a sentence beginning "''song and [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl" without ever completing it, or the fact that no one at all noticed?

Note to self: Don't write when sick.

So, back in college, we used to play a variation of Mad Libs. Basically, we'd pick a song title, and ask someone to give us a phrase based on how it would scan. So we'd ask for a gour-syllable noun or noun phrase with the accent on the first two syllables, someone would say "East Wichita," and we'd have to find a way to sing it to the tune of "Bad Medicine." The results weren't always great (as with regular Mad Libs), but we were pretty sure that was how Weird Al came up with his stuff.

Anyway, the point is that I've had Aerosmith's "(Dude) Looks like Ring Lardner" running through my head for a while now.

Conversations with various folks led to these questions coming up in conversation anyway. All answers are strictly confidential, of course.

So, when Cuba Gooding Jr wants to see a really really bad Tom Hanks movie, does he shout, "Show me The Money Pit!"?

(yeah, I know it's only the second-worst Tom Hanks flick, but "show me the Bonfire of the Vanities" just doesn't work here.)

Non-B5 fans can move along. Nothing to see here.

I'm currently reading an ARC of Peter David's second Apropos of Nothing novel, The Woad to Wuin.

Aside from being a damned good book (shut up, [livejournal.com profile] glenn5!), it's got something special for the B5 fan (Peter having written two episodes, three comics, and lots of novels for them):

Chapter 5 is "In the Shadow of Ba'da'boom." :-) And yes, Apropos encounters Shadows.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rance for the link. IFC didn't provide code, so I've gotta do a screenshot instead:

Crap.

Just looked at my calendar, and my performance review is on Thursday (okay, I've known this for a couple of weeks, but I've been in pleasant denial). I haven't had a review in over three years. Not looking forward to this one. Especially since this has been a stressy summer at work to begin with, and I don't doubt I've also brought home-related problems into the office at times. OTOH, Marisa is not only an amazingly cool boss, but a very upfront and honest one. So I'm pretty sure I'd know if I was about to get lit up like a firecracker. Still, performance reviews are scary.

So, I've decided. Tonight was 'song's writing night. I don't think I'll be well enough for tomorrow to work for me. Thursday is gaming. Friday is Elayna's late night -- I can't really start writing that late and expect to do a decent job. So I think I'll reverse what 'song did, and do my writing on Saturday, when she takes Elayna to Karate and maybe lunch after. I write better in the daytime, anyway. And if I'm still sick on Saturday, I'm just gonna have to punt. :-)
