At work today, so I've got a decent connection. Oh, the reason we went with BS DSL is that they tend to be easier on our billing department, but at this point, they've failed time and again, so they can go fuck themselves with a rusty chainsaw.

Since I've been offline so much, I never had a chance to mention two nifty sets of gifts. First, [livejournal.com profile] alladinsane (whose help with the move can't be overstated) gave us very nifty housewarming presents: Four Rogue pint glasses (Rogue, for those who don't know, is my favorite American brewery), as well as two Miller tall glasses. This now means we actually have a decent shelf of beer glasses, finally! Thanks!

Second, because Elayna goes down to FLA early, we celebrated Father's Day last Saturday. [livejournal.com profile] shadesong took Miss Kid to the new food store inside Domestic Instincts in Decatur, and Miss Kid chose smoked salmon, chocolate fudge-covered popcorn, silicon potholders, and a Le Creuset pie dish (no excuses for not making my own crusts anymore). Yay for kitchen goodness!

Other random things:

They've closed the Madstone. That sucks. Granted, the location was terrible, but losing it still sucks ass. The Arizona and Michigan ones closed as well (not sure if they were also located so far away from their client bases).

The only bad reviews from the "cream of the crop" reviewers for the new Harry Potter movie are from Rex Reed and Variety, which is a better recommendation for the movie than a 100% score would have been. See this movie.

We got no mail yesterday. That's the first time it's happened in ever. I'm assuming mail forwarding is a factor.

Finally, Celebrity Poker Showdown, Week 2 thoughts:

Carmine Infantino is suing DC for the rights to The Flash.

I adore Carmine -- one of the best artists, ever. And I'm a big advocate of creator's rights in general. But this isn't going to fly. Unlike the two guys from Cleveland, this wasn't a character that Carmine brought to DC. It was A) an update of an existing character (the golden-age Flash, Jay Garrick); B) actually created (conceptually) by Julius Schwartz, as well as Bob Kanigher (the writer) and C) denied by Carmine in the past.

And, if he had a problem with the use of Barry in other media, why no lawsuit fourteen years ago, when we saw a good Flash TV series?

(since the article doesn't go into detail on the rest of the suit, other than mentioning Batgirl, I'm not sure about his other characters).

That said, if the result of this is a nice pension for Infantino, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
