Won a game of Puerto Rico tonight. It was our first five player game -- [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe, Tracy, Loriann, Thomas, and yours truly. I won by getting an early factory, which, along with four crops, led to lots of money, which then led to my owning two of the five big buildings, including the one that gave rewards for victory point chips. Ended up with over 60 victory points, which was enough to inch by most of the others. As with all Puerto Rico strategies, I suspect it won't work at all next time we play.

So, I'm at home today, taking a sick day as my back's been in some major pain. I'm getting some writing done (me, behind on Bookslut reviews? Never!), and getting more work done on Elayna's room.

Because Elayna's going to be here in eight hours! Yay!

Haven't seen my kid all summer, and much as I admit that I enjoy the occasional extra bit of free time, I enjoy hugs from my daughter a hell of a lot more.

So, yeah. I expect to be pretty happy tonight. :-)

In other news, watched the latest Mythbusters today. Useful stuff, as they disproved the idea that you can prank someone by putting sugar in their gas tank. Or that you can blow someone up by shooting their gas tank. Or that a banana in a tailpipe will hurt the car. But they did establish that car doors won't stop many bullets, so don't hide behind one in a shootout.

Anyway, off to write and clean and rest.

Thank you for sending me a comment notification from June 27. Without this timely notice, I'd never have known that someone replied. But now that you've made me aware of this reply from over a month ago, I can go and post my own reply, which will presumably make it to another person's mailbox just as summer officially ends and the first day of autumn hits.

(really, I'm used to delays, but this is a fucking record; fortunately, I'd seen the comment and responded back in June).

Yay!

Our child is back, and she seems taller, and is definitely tanner.

Elayna hugs are so wonderful!

The grandparents reported some major brattiness with her cousins this weekend, but otherwise, she's been well-behaved this summer.

After getting here, we all went to Mama Fu's for dinner (and they've expanded their menu!), followed by Bruster's and some Invader Zim.

A good night. I'm happy.
