I have $125 worth of freelance work to bill.

Company's POS proprietary billing web app only works in IE under Windows. No Firefox, no Safari, no Opera, etc.

My copy of Parallels, for whatever reason, will not find the network today.

So I cannot invoice.

Grr. Arg.

There is a special circle of hell for folks who needlessly design webapps so that they only work in one browser.

Is that version of "only works" equal to "oh fuck me, it's ActiveX" or "chokes on user agent strings"?

User-agent strings are not much of a code gate...

this is more likely to be some horrible combination of client side code and bad site design.

Amusingly (to me) such a creation has helped prevent me from renewing my Microsoft subscription this year, as Minefield (or NoScript) can't make the site layout such that I can enter text in the little boxes... so, no $250 for nothing for them this year. Good thing they have lots of cash and Zunes.

I honestly don't know, but either way, it gives me a ton of random errors when I try to submit forms.

Obviously, the company should change their web app (especially if they're in the publishing field, where Macs abound). And in this economy, they should be able to find a web app coder real cheap.

But for you, for right now, does your library have Windows boxen running IE? Is that a feasible solution?

What, not even firefox's IE tab? Whoa, I think they'd actually have to actively work hard at breaking it that badly!

IE Tab doesn't work on the Mac version of Firefox, alas.

if you select IE from the debug menu it may work - I've had this work to get around other sites that seem to choke on Safari on my mac

Sorry -- I should have mentioned that I'd tried that; the Safari Develop menu (which replaced the Debug one) simulates the agent code, but doesn't run whatever code is on the site.

hmm you can tell it's been a second or two since I last had to use that menu :) Just thought I'd offer it up as something to try.
