Me, to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, while watching last night's episode:

"Well, at least he didn't get her a Merkin Bag."

Oh, like you weren't all thinking it.

Anyway, a much better episode than the last few.

Some very preliminary (a word which here means "off-the-cuff, and likely to be error-ridden") thoughts on The Penultimate Peril:

Very Fine Details discussed below )

For those of us not lucky enough to own them, but lucky enough to have TCM and a Tivo (or similar recording device), there are 10.5 hours of straight Val Lewton movies tonight, starting at 8:00 PM.

In order, we've got Cat People, The Seventh Victim, I Walked With a Zombie, The Leopard Man, The Ghost Ship, The Curse of the Cat People, The Body Snatcher, and Bedlam (the latter two featuring the wonderful Boris Karloff). Both TCotCP and TBS were directed by the late Robert Wise, yet another reason to watch.

The full TCM schedule is here, and there's some great stuff coming up, but this is it for Val Lewton movies this month.

As some of you might remember, I did a Friday the 13th movie countdown earlier this year. I'll be doing the same for the Halloween movies starting tomorrow. Note that I'll be skipping weekend posts, so the countdown will end on Halloween itself. As with the F13 countdown, I'll start from the worst, and work my way up.

I should also warn folks: Unlike the F13 movies, almost all of which are at least fun, if not high quality entertainment, the Halloween series has been mired in a pool of suck for over half its run. That makes picking out the worst film pretty damned hard. But I'm willing to try.

Oh, and if anyone happens to have a good Michael Myers icon, I can't say I'd turn it down. :-)
