The best part of A.O. Scott's review of The Last Airbender in the Times is in the italicized note at the bottom:

“The Last Airbender” is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested). It kind of looks like they’re fighting.

Over in the Globe, Ty Burr notes of the 3D effects (which are singled out in every review), "Really, I’ve got winking-Jesus postcards that look better."

With the exception of USA Today's emergency backup reviewer Scott Bowles (who also liked Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Crap, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and Little Man), this one looks destined to be universally hated.

Powerpuff Girls on Sale!

Amazon's selling The Powerpuff Girls: The 10th Anniversary Collection for $29.99 (50% off)! And yes, it includes "The Powerpuff Girls Rule" (the new ep that aired two years ago, featuring Mojo Jojo covering Tears for Fears). It doesn't include the movie, but that's arguably a feature, not a bug.

So, according to the answer I received to my help ticket, the comment slowdown is the result of the news post. Apparently, whenever a new LJ News post gets created, comments go to hell.

Long-term, of course, I'd like them to fix the actual bug. But it would seem that a good short-term solution would be to not bother with the News posts unless they've got something to say. Which would stop the comment fiasco for at least six months, based on the most recent updates.
