The Amazon Deal of the Day is any of 35 Kindle editions of Ed McMain's 87th Precinct books for $.99 each! I've made no secret of my love for this series, and these are all worth it. They don't have every book -- they're missing the first book, Cop Hater, but they have the second, The Mugger, and the follow-up, The Con Man. Most of them stand alone, although there are running plot lines (compare it to, say, The Closer or CSI, in that you can watch any one episode for the mystery plot, even if you'll miss some character notes).

In video games, Sonic Generations for the PS3 or Xbox is $29.99 (40% off).

Cheap Blu-Rays include Gamera: Triple Feature for $7.99 (60% off), Kingdom of Heaven for $9.49 (68% off), Enemy of the State for $7.99 (50% off), and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World for $8.99 (70% off).

On regular DVD, Ultraman: The Complete Series is $5.99 (60% off).

And finally, in books, How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage and Style and Women and Also Cocktails Ever Written, by Sterling Archer himself, is $9.59 (40% off). If it's half as funny as the TV series, it's worth getting.

New Penn State President Rodney Erickson actually has the gall to say, "It grieves me very much when I hear people say 'the Penn State scandal.' This is not Penn State. This is the (Jerry) Sandusky scandal."

Horseshit. The Sandusky "scandal" was his raping a series of boys (and that's a flat-out crime, not a scandal; see Roman Polanski for another example of how people use the "scandal" word to try to minimize the actions of a monster.) Penn State, however, is the organization that actively covered up the crime. So yeah, the school gets to own this. No, it doesn't mean that there aren't many wonderful things about the school (I've got a friend enrolled in a distance learning class there right now, know some online buddies who work there, and love some of the work that their gaming commons does), but when the president of the school is involved in the cover-up, it's a Penn State problem.

You know how you can hear about something new, and realize that it's that thing you've always wanted?

How about a collaboration between Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett?

Yeah, I'll be there as soon as it's published.
