1. The DSM as a dystopian novel.

2. Nine signs the journalism on Africa you've just encountered is just trash. This one goes beyond the obvious "Africa is one monolithic place" things.

3. The state of bisexuality on TV. Better, but far from good.

4. Why the NRA is afraid of doctors. More generally, organizations that thrive on ignorance are afraid of groups that promote knowledge.

5. Similarly, anyone shocked that the Koch brothers would be involved in money laundering?

6. On video game reviews and Bioshock Infinite as the worst game of the year. Long, but well worth reading if you follow the reviewing scene.

7. Orson Scott Card: Mentor, Friend, Bigot. One of the better pieces I've read on Card lately.

8. I have no idea why this piece about a thermostat is at Jezebel, but it's a great argument for the need for good user interface design, technical writing, and documentation, things that's really lacking out there once you get beyond the realm of devices like the iPad.

9. How did it get to be OK for people to be late for everything? Seriously. This isn't anything new, but it seems to have gotten worse in recent times, and it's really fucking problematic in the Boston area.

10. Finally, what would baseball be like if it had a sixteen-game season like football?

(Yes, as Black Friday approaches, Amazon's ratcheting things up again. Yesterday's post has still-active deals on the Coen Brothers, Sons of Anarchy, Marvel movies, Willow, World War Z, fantasy RPGs, and more.)

Amazon's Deal of the Day is on Columbo: The Complete Series for $52.49 (65% off).

The Three Stooges: The Ultimate Collection is $29.99 (69% off) on DVD. That's a lot of Nyuk for your buck. If you prefer a different kind of screwball comedy, Gilligan's Island: Complete Series Collection is $24.99 (78% off). And if you prefer an entirely different kind of comedy, season 1 of Animaniacs is $20.99 (53% off).

For the Twilight Moms out there, the 10-disc Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga Box Set is $44.99 (40% off).

There's a big Indie Movie Sale, with 50% off or more on films including Priest, The Chorus, Shall We Dance, The Cruel Sea, Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Valentin, and more.

In kitchen stuff, the Simply Calphalon Nonstick 7-qt. Dutch Oven & Cover (which happens to be our dutch oven of choice, in which I just made beef stew last night, in fact) is $33.49 (58% off, and a good $30 below other prices after Prime shipping or getting your basket over $35 for the free shipping option).

The Waring Professional Toaster Oven is $26.99 (72% off, also about $30 under others once shipping's accounted for).

In toys, the classic Etch-a-Sketch is on sale for $7.49 (50% off), while the more recent hit Hedbanz is $7.99 (53% off).

And finally, in books, a whole bunch of classic Ian Fleming 007 books are on sale for $7 a pop (53% off)!
