1. The DSM as a dystopian novel.

2. Nine signs the journalism on Africa you've just encountered is just trash. This one goes beyond the obvious "Africa is one monolithic place" things.

3. The state of bisexuality on TV. Better, but far from good.

4. Why the NRA is afraid of doctors. More generally, organizations that thrive on ignorance are afraid of groups that promote knowledge.

5. Similarly, anyone shocked that the Koch brothers would be involved in money laundering?

6. On video game reviews and Bioshock Infinite as the worst game of the year. Long, but well worth reading if you follow the reviewing scene.

7. Orson Scott Card: Mentor, Friend, Bigot. One of the better pieces I've read on Card lately.

8. I have no idea why this piece about a thermostat is at Jezebel, but it's a great argument for the need for good user interface design, technical writing, and documentation, things that's really lacking out there once you get beyond the realm of devices like the iPad.

9. How did it get to be OK for people to be late for everything? Seriously. This isn't anything new, but it seems to have gotten worse in recent times, and it's really fucking problematic in the Boston area.

10. Finally, what would baseball be like if it had a sixteen-game season like football?

"Money-laundering" is such an ugly term for what the Koch Brothers are doing. I prefer "free-market solutions."

I sort of agree with the Bioshock review, but I disagree about the reasons. But then, I disliked The Last of Us too, so I've been out of the pack when it comes to liking things this year.

I stopped reading Cards when one of his series was explicit that it was perfectly OK for men to rape homeless women. "I think he called "going into the desert".

NO.
