(Aside from the on-field potential, of course.)

1. He became a Braves fan because the Cubs game kept preempting Saved By the Bell. I actually first started hating on the Yankees because their games were always preempting my afternoon cartoons on WPIX growing up.

2. He was a fan of Junkyard Dog, the first wrestler I was ever a huge fan of.

(Deals from yesterday worth checking out include Star Trek Into Darkness at 80% off, Kindle books, Tim Burton movies, and more. From Monday's post, the deals on NCIS, The Simpsons, CSI, Miyazaki movies, BSG, and actually most of the DVD and video game deals (including the $10 Vita games -- all but Little Big Planet) are still active.)

The Deal of the Day is 50% off a selection of 20 Melissa and Doug toys!

The other DotD is the Olympus E-PM2 16MP Compact System Camera with 14-42mm and 40-150mm Two Lens for $349 (56% off).

As always, there's a ton of good Lightning Deals if you've got the patience/luck. Today offers Nikita, The 39 Steps, a Mr. Coffee single-brew machine, trendy cookbooks (Pioneer Woman, 4-hour Chef, Wheat Belly), and more.

The Kindle Daily Deal is on Marvel graphic novels, with eight of them at $2.99 a pop.

Other Kindle deals: Every issue of Scalped is $.99 a pop. I've never read the book, in spite of the acclaim, as there's something at least a little icky on the surface of a white guy deciding to write a grim and gritty story on a reservation, but essays like this one at least intrigue me.

$1.99 Kindle books include Gaiman's Stardust, Christopher Moore's Fluke, Don DeLillo's Underworld, and James Lee Burke's Feast Day of Fools.

In MP3s, you can grab Erasure's Silent Night for free.

There's also a sale on Greatest Hits MP3 albums, with $3.99 albums from Sarah McLachlan andMartina McBride, and $2.99 ones from The Bangles, Ozzy Ozbourne, the Indigo Girls, ELO, Harry Connick, and more.

In video games, Grand Theft Auto V is $39.99 (33% off) for the Xbox360 and PS3.

NBA 2K14 is $39.99 (33% off), but only for the PS3.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is $9.99 (75% off) for the Vita.

For the PC, Guild Wars 2 Heroic Edition is $29.99 (40% off), and Anodyne (a fun game I picked up in a Humble Bundle a while ago).

In movies and TV, Friday Night Lights: The Complete Series is $49.99 (50% off) on DVD.

World War Z on Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital is $7.99 (80% off).

Alfred Hitchcock: The Essentials Collection (with The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho) is $22.49 (55% off) on DVD, $32.49 (59% off) on Blu-Ray.

The first four seasons of Breaking Bad are 50% off or more on Blu-Ray and DVD.

And sets of Futurama, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Burn Notice are going for 50-80% off!

In kitchen stuff, the Rachael Ray Oven Lovin' Nonstick Bakeware Collection 9X13 Cake Pan is $9.40 (more than 50% off any other price after shipping).

The Simply Calphalon Nonstick 10 Piece Set is $149.99 (25% off, about $40 below others after shipping).

The Cuisinart Juice Extractor is $119.95 (56% off, about $30 off other prices), and the Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments is $50.99 (54% off, about $10 below other dealers).

The Presto 04820 PopLite Hot Air Popper is $19.87 (34% off, about $7 below other prices).

And the Proctor-Silex 26500Y Durable Belgian Waffle Baker is $26.99 (18% off, but about $12 off other prices after shipping).
