The next Companion

The actress who will play the next Companion on Doctor Who has been announced: Karen Gillan. No word on what her character will be like.

In other Doctor news, the Tenth Doctor's version of Hamlet (co-starring Picard) will be filmed for posterity. Woohoo!

If we've learned anything from Peri Brown, it's that Companions should always be asked to try accents they can't handle. Oh, wait. We've learned just the opposite. Never mind.

What I'd like to know now is, is the character going to be 21st century Earth human? It's been a while since we've had a companion who wasn't.

ETA: Well, okay, Jack. But I was thinking mostly along the lines of characters like Jamie or Leela.

One thing I've been enjoying about the monthly comic in Doctor Who Magazine (yes, I subscribe; don't look at me like that) is that the companion in it is seriously alien -- as in bright green skin sort of alien. I could really do with more of that sort of thing in the new series.

Another thing that would make me happy is getting another companion on board the TARDIS. While the pack o' companions running with Five for a while there was a bit much, I do like it when you have a Jamie-Zoe, Ben-Polly, Barbara-Ian, Tegan-Turlough, or a Jack-Rose for the Doctor to play off of. More interesting that way.

A, I have no idea who she is, but she's *really* pretty. And we get another ginger, yay! I was hoping for more than one companion, though. I hope we get a guy halfway through the series. Or an alien. Or me. I want to be a companion. :P

B, yay! I never got to see DT in Hamlet, so this is my chance. I know there was a petition going around a while ago to film the show.
