An FDA advisory committee is recommending that Vicodin and Percoset be pulled from the market.

House's upcoming Bayer addiction won't be nearly as entertaining.

SPOILER ALERT

Oh, hospitals have huge stashes he can raid in advance. And there is always oxy and morphine. Besides, maybe that is why they're going with the insanity plotline- to get him off the vicodin and avoid the 'where did he get it?' issues.

I dunno, Holmes used between cases out of boredom, House doesn't seem to use in that way.

7 Percent Solution had him using all the time, and hallucinating, but, I never really found the book that convincing.

Well, the season-ender was a trip to rehab, provided it was real... maybe we'll get him on fentanyls or real opiates, or another trip through the methadone window with a running gag of him coding out a couple times an episode.

Or he can just start taking vicoprofen...

Well, brain rehab or drug rehab, either way he was still on the pills and likely won't be afterwards. I think the writers have written themselves in a hell of a lot of leeway as far as how the next season goes, particularly if House's world proves to still be semitangible.

I'm researching a post on the whole FDA/acetominophen deal and honestly, I'm surprised the guy hasn't turned yellow and fallen over on his cane yet.

Maybe he can be on the season finale for Mental! Since that's just House with psychiatric disorders.

...Fucking hell. I'd be pleased if they'd lower the amount of tylenol in the narcotics, but goddamnit people do your own damned math and stop fucking it up for the rest of us.

the ironic part is that the main problem the committee sites is the acetaminophen (tylenol) causing liver issues.

But one of the main reasons they mix in the acetaminophen is to make it taste bad to discourage recreational use.

Er.... just noticed an adjunct.

Bayer addiction? hee. Lortab ASA is hydrocodone compounded with aspirin.

Having worked in pharmacies for years, there is no way the American populace would let go of their precious goddamned hydrocodone/apap 5/500 or oxycodone/apap 5/325 without riots in the streets.

I do find it interesting that there is no plain hydrocodone tablet without acetaminophen (I have friends allergic to it, and they have to use vicoprofen, or in strong cases, percodan) and that most doctors seemed to regulate their patients by apap content per day instead of anything else. (4000mg per 24 hours). I can't even imagine what chaos would occur if hydrocodone products were changed to schedule 2 narcotics. Mayhem and hilarity would ensue.

Hmm...Greg going cold turkey doesn't even bear thinking about. OTOH, symptoms include being grouchy, sullen, prone to sudden manic/depressive mood swings. How would we ever tell if he is?

Oxycontin has no acetominophin. He could switch to that. It'd probably work better on his pain anyway.
