yendi: (Fuck Polanski)

[Warning: This post will contain a lot of profanity, and has the potential to be triggery, as I'll be discussing rapist and occasional filmmaker Roman Polanski*]

One things that's amazing about the arrest of child rapist Polanski is how many people in this world are just plain assholes.

Here's one of CNN's article about it.

Let's take a look at two of the tools quoted here.

First, there's professional turd-swallower and French culture and communications minister Frederic Mitterrand, who "wants to remind everyone that Roman Polanski benefits from great general esteem" and has "exceptional artistic creation and human qualities."

Yes, folks, toad-fucker and goat-felcher Mitterand believes that it's perfectly fucking okay to rape a thirteen-year-old girl if you're brilliant artist. Because, you know, that's the price of fame.

Later, Mitterrand tells us that French President Nicolas Sarkozy "shares his hope for a rapid resolution to the situation which would allow Roman Polanski to rejoin his family as quickly as possible." I'll give Sarkozy the benefit of the doubt and assume that Mitterand is libeling him here.

Mitterrand finishes up by telling us that he "greatly regrets that Mr. Polanski has had yet another difficulty added to an already turbulent existence." Yeah, because, you know, bad shit happening makes it okay to rape a child. And this is a difficulty that was "added?" As in, brought out by an external source? Like someone went up to poor, innocent Polanski and just arrested him for no reason at all? Seriously, if Mitterrand even has a moral compass, it's shoved too far up his nether oriface to even be visible.

Then there's Polanski hanger-on and Penthouse photographer Otto Weisser, who in that same article calls raping a child "one little mistake."

Really.

This scumsucker of an alleged human being is equating child rape with a shoplifting charge.

It gets worse.

There's a petition of assholes wanting -- no, demanding -- that Polanksi be freed, as if he's some sort of political prisoner. The fucktard parade includes Woody Allen (whose own skeevishness, of course, is legendary), Darren Aronofsky, Alexandre Arcady, Stephen Frears, Buck Henry, Wong Kar Waï, John Landis, David Lynch, Julian Schnabel, Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, Terry Gilliam, and more.

Which goes to show that talent is in no way grounded in morality, or even in humanity..

There are frequently discussions -- especially in the sci-fi communities -- about how to balance real-world obnoxiousness on the part of a creator with the desire to read/listen to/watch something impressive. Everyone, of course, has their own line. This one's well past mine. The folks listed above are incredibly talented (as is Polanski himself, of course). There are, however, always, even in a world loosely governed by Sturgeon's Law, going to be more talented creators and creations than there is ever time to see (or read, or listen to).

None of this, of course, takes away the feelings I experienced when first viewing Chinatown (shown in a high school class before I knew anything about the director), Annie Hall, The Wrestler, or Kentucky Fried Movie. But there are better ways to spend what little money I have than on supporting complete and utter scum like these people.

OBdisclaimer: No I'm not "boycotting" anyone. That's an organized action designed to have an impact. I'm simply noting that these people crossed a line that's unacceptable to me.

*Yes, when you rape someone, that is what defines you from that day forward. Anything else you do is secondary.
