Since I've only caught a handful of reruns, I have to know:

Do the kids ever say, "dad, why do we need to know so much about sex lives of you, Aunt Robin, Aunt Lily, Uncle Barney, and Uncle Marshall?"

I mean, it just seems like the end result of the show is that they end up in therapy.

ETA: Also, having just rewatched the pilot, I'm not in the least bit surprised that I didn't end up sticking with the show. And even in later episodes, the laugh track insultingly undercuts so much of the actual humor. Frustrating, when the writing and acting are so often so sharp.

You made me realize what would be worse: if Bob Saget were writing the narration instead of just saying it. O.o

I haven't watched much of the show, but I like the conceit. It's worth it, even if it goes to uncomfortable places for the sake of the story.

They do. And in one other episode, he reveals exactly why he is drowning them in so much detail, for a reason that's actually reasonably clever.

It's probably the one where he finds out that his parents remember nothing of how they met and so he declares that he's gonna tell his kids every single detail.

On the whole, I like the show, but using the "I'm telling this to my kids" as a framing device seems out of place with the amount of times he talks about his sex life.

They pretty much have dropped the fastforwards; they don't show the kids anymore. Or at least haven't in ages.

There's a laugh track? I honestly can't say I've ever noticed it...

Ditto. I've seen every episode of the show and it doesn't jump out at me. Possibly because it tends to line up very well with what I'm laughing at, possibly because I think the cast (especially NPH) times so well around it... I don't know. I didn't actually think about it being there until you mentioned it.

It's one of my favorite comedies; I think I'm usually amused enough that the laughs don't bug me. And you just have to roll with the premise really, though they do kindof explain it. And they don't show the kids anymore.
