If you remove the dictionaries from the schools, the kids will look it up on the Internet. And I can assure you that what they find there will be much more likely to set your fragile hearts a-flutter.

(Actually, odds are the kids have already looked it up on the internet, and are using the dictionary to actually help understand things more clearly. But we can't have that now, can we?)

I find it somewhat darkly amusing that you know those dimtwits are going to be scouring through the dictionary looking for evil, graphic (liberal) words.

Dude, this is from the place I'm FROM. I'm very tempted to call and give them a few tart words of my own.

Kyburg: I think you should. Hey, I'm old (like old enough to remember when Kennedy was shot) and I remember the thrill of finding the word FUCK in one of my parents' dicionaries. Must be the reason I write fan fiction now. Or maybe the reason I have a high paying job at a prestigious company. You decide.

This is why we have a nation full of idiots. If the word 'oral sex' in a dictionary is the biggest thing you have to worry about, wow you're life must be pretty boring. And the definition - if that's not the most unerotic thing you've ever read, then you've been reading too many school board minutes.

You know, I heard that if you bury your head in the sand and pretend that sex doesn't exist, 10 year olds won't be curious about it at all. [/sarcasm]

You know, we do age appropriate explanations here in our household - but the definition on that one was about as harmless as it gets. Want to know what my 7 year old would say? a) 'What's "genitals" mommy?' followed by b) 'Ewww!! Why would people do that??' when A was answered.

If you don't trust your children with information, you will quickly learn that you can't trust your children with anything.

Remember, that's just the dictionary. Which tends to contain only words with very clinical definitions. Just wait until these parents realize what is contained in the rest of the reference section.

Bwahahahaha!

So seriously, how do you say "oral stimulation of the genitals" in a less offensive manner? Do they want to edit it out completely? Good lord, i guess that means kids will have to rely on http://www.urbandictionary.com/ *twitch* yeah, there's a great idea...

Actually... I hate to admit it but when I was 13-14, even seeing that in the dictionary was pretty titillating.

If you need words, you could check in a dictionary!

And its such a harmless part of growing up. Who didn't look up dirty words as a kid.

And like the kids don't hear them every day at school, in movies, on TV. But let's censor the dictionary because it has an incomprehensible, non-titillating definition of oral sex. And lets make sure those kids are exposed to 'just say no' and creationism, because no-nothing pregnant 14 year olds is really what this country needs more of.

Well, I don't think I ever heard it actually referred to as oral sex when I was on the playground...

Me personally, I'd rather be able to raise a child that did not have to know what the words "prejudice", "holocaust", and "terrorism" mean. Sadly, banning the dictionary won't make that go away either.
