Yet another reason to see Thor:

A group of racists are pissed off that Idris Elba is in the movie as a Norse god. Pissing off racist assholes while seeing a comic book movie? Perfect.

Idris Elba makes a perfect Heimdall.

maybe, just MAYBE, the casting director saw him as a good actor and not just a skin color. Possibly?

So did they boycott Erik the Viking as well? That had Eartha Kitt, who is not exactly of Norse ancestry.

Did anyone bother to explain to them that it's just a movie, and they should really just relax?

Dude. GODS. Gods can be any damn color that they want. I would paint Loki green in one scene just to be entertaining. Or maybe lavender.

Thanks for sharing this -- I used it to explain to my brother what asymmetrical axes of power are and how they're relevant to discussions of race and what is or isn't racist (see also: white-washing in Last Airbender = racist, whereas casting black man in stereotypical white role = subversive).
