The abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being.

Um, doesn't homicide also do that?

EARTH LOGIC.

South Dakota, like everywhere else, has lunatic fringe elements who sometimes get elected. We can ask what's wrong with the state if this fucked-up legalized homicide bill gets passed.

What the fucking fuck is this?! I was really hoping the link went to an Onion article. I also had to check the date in the hopes that maybe we were now at April 1st.

I cannot wrap my brain around this at all!

*facepalms*

I fell in love with South Dakota when I visited... enough so that it made it on to my "Top 3 Would Love to Live Here" list.

Now, though...

That's so crazy it's almost funny? You know, except for the terrifying parts.

*sigh* So, more women will have to travel to Colorado for abortions, making the whole process more challenging and expensive for them. When I worked at the clinic in Boulder, we used to get patients not only from the local area, but also from all over the region, including both Dakotas, Utah and Wyoming. There simply are very few doctors in those states who provide abortions full stop -- and this just makes it even worse.

I keep thinking life is bad under the Conservatives here in Britain, but then I read American headlines and just want to cry.

What the fuck?
WHAT THE FUCK!?!?
It's fucking mind numbing how these people can be so completely blind to their own hypocrisy. You want to "protect life" by committing murder? And apparently the mothers don't meet their criteria of life worth defending, nor do these children once they leave the womb as they seem to always be trying to eliminate every program, every recourse the families of those children born into impoverished circumstances might use to insure those children have adequate food, clothing, education, or medical care.
I can't even process this.

I would suggest that anyone voting for this legislation are, themselves, arguably liable for the crime of conspiracy to commit murder.

That's...wow. Talk about perversion. First of all, for some party to even be able to get such a bill this far in the legislative process is absolutely insane. Say what they will about States' Rights, all jurisdictions are ultimately subject to Federal law. If this process gathers any more steam, I wonder if this would be a Justice Department issue? This is not a bill that should have to be argued in the courts.

This is also one of those times in which the people have voted and some of their representatives refuse to heed their constituents' wishes. This is a complete 180 from the California situation, in that voting to maintain abortion right does not exclude, but rather allows all concerned to make a personal choice should that have to face such a decision.

Wait, slow down. Now that i've read a bit more, i think the original bill was just poorly worded. The intention seems to be that a pregnant woman (or someone nearby) can meet an assault against her with deadly force, since her unborn child would clearly be in mortal danger. Otherwise, someone could assault a pregnant woman, but if she (or someone nearby) shot that person, then that person could be tried for the murder of the attacker. If this is the case, and worded properly, i'm actually all for it.

Yes, that intent would be ok with me. But the way the bill is worded, it could be construed as to allow murder of abortion doctors. I like the way the Section 2 subsection 22-16-35 part is worded better, where it specifically mentions that it must be in "lawful defense" of the unborn child.

The "what the hell is wrong with you?" ...i would have used "are you out of your f**cking minds?"

Legalized Murder, more like it, it's a bill to legalize (or at least encourage it) the murder of health care people under the guise of close association "legalized homicide".
All circular sidesteppng logic.

And this.. "The abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being."

Umm, whole human being? Somewhere along the way these people lost the whole
idea of the concept of *birth*, you know, giving birth to a whole human being (though not yet fully grown) called a "baby".
And yes, i understand calling a fetus a baby but it still has to be born to be a person.
