yendi: (Fuck Polanski)

In a switch from the Polanski arrest, in which a whole bunch of liberals showed themselves to be complete rape apologists*, we now have radical right-wing nutjob Ben Stein claiming that economists don't rape. Maybe you should go make a movie with a classy director, Ben. Here's a list of Hollywood's scummiest.

As I said over on Twitter, the last time Ben was right about something, he was hosting his own game show.

*I originally considered modifying this phrase with some obscenity-filled bit, but in all honestly, once I've called someone a rape apologist, it's not like calling them a "beaver felcher" is going to actually be more of an insult.

The judge specifically cited the case of Roman Polanski, and France's refusal to extradite him, in denying bail to Strauss-Kahn. The logical presumption was that S-K would waltz back to Paris and escape justice.

Meanwhile, the French are more concerned with the fact that S-K was led away in handcuffs in a "perp walk":

“I found that image to be incredibly brutal, violent and cruel,” the former justice minister Elisabeth Guigou told France-Info radio on Monday, referring to widely published photographs of a beleaguered-looking Mr. Strauss-Kahn, handcuffed and led by several New York police officers. “I am happy that we do not have the same judicial system.”

Funny, here in America we think that rape is "incredibly brutal, violent and cruel."

If someone objects to being treated like a criminal, there's a very simple solution. It's called "don't commit crimes."

Well, there's still "innocent until proven guilty". We don't know for a fact that he committed a crime, and he certainly hasn't been tried or convicted yet.

Kahn was treated no differently from any other suspect; but too many people think that Kahn deserves special treatment because he's such a special person. The laws don't apply to people like him and Polanski.

If he'd been able to flee to France before he got nabbed (which is certainly exactly what he'd do if he were released on bail) then the trial and justice would never occur. And plenty of people are OK with that.

And yes, I also considered including profanity, but it didn't seem necessary.

In France, apparently, his "dignity" would have been respected... meanwhile the French media has published the name of his accuser. So: whose privacy is important here????

The accuser may have been HIV positive (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/dominique-strauss-kahn/8521881/Dominique-Strauss-Kahn-maid-lives-in-apartment-block-for-HIV-sufferers.html), giving Kahn something else to worry about...

The problem here is the assumption that there's a perfect correlation between being "treated like a criminal" and committing crime.
Or the (perfectly human) tendency of prejudice, and trying in the media.

Yeah, rape apologist is pretty much one of the worst things you can call a person.

Maybe he just meant economist rape entire countries: not just one person. Especially ones from the IMF.
