Buried at the bottom of this story is the fact that the Boston Police Department seems not to get the whole "right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" thing.

And the fact that they're threatening people with economic grievances with fines. That's not deliberately trying to hit people where they're hurting or anything, I'm sure.

ALSO.

...But then Mayor Menino, when asked why he set the cops on the protesters, said: "Civil disobedience doesn't work for Boston; it doesn't work for anyone."

Sad when the Mayor has no concept and/or appreciation of the history of his own city.

Lately, it seems like you can just take the word "Boston" out of that sentence and it holds up equally well.
