Leverage is abandoning its so-fake-it-barely-qualifies "Boston" in favor of Portland next year. I'll miss seeing all those familiar sites like, um, well, wait. Never mind.

Maybe I'm thinking of Fringe.

(Seriously, I love Leverage, but I've never seen a show set in "Boston" that spent less time even pretending to be set there.)

I wonder if the show's going to be meta about it: go back to a Portland location that was used for Boston/Kiev/wherever and someone on the team says "Kinda seems familiar..." The writers could find some funny way of doing that, buuuuuuuuut maybe they shouldn't. (I sometimes want odd things.)

I'm really glad they're doing this. Portland's a neat-looking town and I like it getting used well for worthwhile productions, when for a long time only Gus Van Sant was doing anything interesting here on film. (I still think Grimm is interesting and has potential, but I'm doing my best to watch it critically and not simply go "IT'S SHOW AND SET HERE SO I <3 IT." It's finding its way. Maybe Twin Peaks spoiled me for how good a first season could be, but I digress...)

On the fence...

On the one hand, I like that it is set in Boston.

On the other hand, you are right...they have been really fake about it. Most of the "Massachusetts towns" they've used are completely fictional. Fringe is a lot better about geography. (I *still* crack up every time I think of Elliot saying "Nashua" in The Maltese Falcon Job)

One of the second-gen Spenser movies was, of course, based in Boston but for some reason was filmed in Toronto. They were pretty good about it; most shows sooner or later blow it and show a TTC streetcar or something but they kept it covered pretty well. Until the scene where Spenser is talking to his police contact on the street and they tilt the camera up so that the traffic doesn't show, but a local landmark does. Don't know if it would have meant anything to a Bostonian, but to us it gave the game away.

Oh, I will miss the joys of "Belbridge, MA" and the oddly level, properly paved streets.
