The folks at The Onion have a damned near preternatural gift for geting satire of horrible subjects exactly right. I don't know how they do it. Maybe I don't wanna know. But damn.
Agreed. I'm struggling w/ a RL&LJ friend who is just going lunatic fringe in favor of guns for everyone, all the time. He told me teachers should be regarded "with suspicion" if they didn't want to arm up. I'm trying to salvage the friendship by biting my tongue because I know he's ranting not listening but damn is it ever getting difficult.
:) Good question. Part of it I'm sure is that I was raised by the gun crazy myself and have only grown increasing intolerant to them over a course of realizations and events. I guess I hold out the faint hope that someone as smart as him could eventually realize that this country has GOT to stop doubling down on guns as the only & best answer. But boy did that comment about teachers hurt. I taught in CT for years. I think I might have a slightly better idea of the classroom realities and incredible amount of danger bringing in that kind of armament would bring.
