Within the next seven days, the LonCon chairs will officially announce that Jonathan Ross has "graciously" asked to step down as presenter. They'll replace him with someone innocuous (but still white and male). Ross and a lot of the Usual Suspects will gripe about the "censorship" that the "social justice types" perpetuate and Ross will have a field day in his usual venues making fun of fandom. The chairs will get to brag that they listened to the fans and made the right choice, all while getting lots of short-term attention for the con.

As Will Graham would say, this is their design.

Context here and here.

I don't honestly think that was the intention but I'm not disputing the potential trajectory.
And to answer the obvious: the resignation is final. One cannot go back.

Not even that long

I have decided to withdraw from hosting the Hugo's @loncon3 in response to some who would rather I weren't there. Have a lovely convention.

Okay, I'm planning on attending LonCon, but real life has kept me busy. What has Wossy done now to get himself into trouble?

What past history? The whole Sachsgate thing? Or just the way he slobbers over his guests, lavishing praise on them? The kiss with Neil Gaiman?

Wait.... This is a sci fi con right? Top Gear is a car show right?

So.... WTF do the 2 have in common? Or am I totally missing something?

Oh I don't know. Clarkson must be on a lot of people's lists for candidates for a one-way trip off the planet.

Actually, some people are suggesting Jane Goldman. Ironic, eh? Don't want Ross, but they're fine with his wife.
