Additional out-there Who theory

Yes, I still prefer the theory that the new Big Bad is really the Master, but given the frequent use of mirrors, what if it was Daughter of Mine? Or possibly Mother of Mine, with the rest of the Family being called in?

Yeah, I know that's not likely at all (how often does anything from the Davies run get mentioned unless Moffat wrote it?), but it's another group of antagonists who can change appearances, and it's the one group from the Modern Who run who have encountered The Doctor at his darkest and most vindictive.

One thing that might lure me back to watching is a season that actually cast the Doctor as the villain.

Like they teased heading into Day of the Doctor and then completely backed off from? Or a true villainous Doctor across a season?

(I'm now reminded of how much Highlander copped out with the Duncan/Dark Quickening plotline, where he was somehow never successful in killing anyone while he was evil, making his evil acts things like getting drunk, seducing a married woman, and a bunch of attempted murders that all failed miserably.)

I hope it's not a future River. I read a theory that claimed it could be Idris, acting without the Doctor's knowledge. My theory? The little girl from Silence In The Library. Either way, I don't think Missy's necessarily an outright villain.

Ooh, a Silence call-out would be nice (I still think that Colin Salmon would have been a great Doctor, and since Moon was just a construct, there wouldn't have been a conflict with using him again).

Hm. I kind of like that one. Yes. That could work.

I don't want it to be the Master, because we've Been There Done That (tm). I like the idea of it being the Rani. In the Eighth Doctor books, Romana did a face-heel turn, and I'd love to see that on screen.

I'd still be okay with the Master, if only because we'd finally see (in continuity) a male-to-female regeneration. But yeah, a heel turn by an established character would be lovely, too (of course, a heel turn by the Doctor, as I thought we might get with The War Doctor, would also be interesting).
