You know, they don't have to take the word "God" out of the Pledge. Really.

Just change "under" to "over." Because that's the whole point -- we're a country founded on a love of certain freedoms, and those take precedence over whatever religious beliefs we choose to have.

It'll probably be a heck of a lot cheaper for those folks who need to fix public signs and the like.

or we could add "and goddess" in there, you know, right where it goes, and that would make it all ok too.

The sad thing is that with Bush the ultra-religious in office right now, there's probably going to be little progress in any direction. You know he'll never stand for having it banned altogether, and he'd probably also throw fits at the idea of removing the two words that bug so many people so much. "Genie, I'd like to wish for a bit of common sense to prevail. Canya do that for me?" "Sorry, Al. There are some things even a genie can't fix."

*sigh*

cheers,
Phil

And now for something completely different . . .

Hey, Adam. I would be very interested in reading your review of Slander: Liberal lies about the American right by Ann Coulter.

Assuming you don't just melt down when you read it. :)
