Sep. 20th, 2002 11:45 amSo, last night was going to be a writing night, but little actually got written.
In the meantime, I managed to stay up until nearly 4 with a nice case of tummy troubles, combined with some mild depression stuff (though I suspect that was interconnected, actually, as they both started while Elayna was in Karate).
So I'm not actually going into work today, although I'm getting lots of work done at home (and I just found out that Dave Brubeck is coming to Emory in October! That's the best music news at Emory since Wynton Marsalis was here a few years back).
In other news, the Weight Watchers At Home kit arrived yesterday. I'm not planning on starting it until tomorrow, giving me some time to look it over, as well as to start when I'm not feeling icky. I like the system a lot.
And as a result of being home, I actually managed to finish the latest Westfield shipment (which arrived yesterday) before
shadesong (mainly because she spaced and didn't read any when we were at karate last night). So I've finally read volume one of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which was damned good. Not overly original, but surprisingly good. If Promethaea didn't exist, I'd say it was Moore's best work in years.
There were three Bendis books, and although two of them (Powers and Alias) were as sharp as always, the latest Ultimate Spidey was, frankly, flat. I had to look to see if Millar had filled in this month. But it was credited to Bendis.
Other items: The latest Amelia Rules!, simply my favorite book right now (of course, I've been a Jimmy Gownly fan for years; the first Meltzer Green Arrow, which was much funnier than I expected (not that there aren't jokes in his novels, but I didn't expect the level of banter we got here), and which featured the return of one of my favorite characters from recent DCU days; Young Justice #49, featuring the funniest opening pages I've seen in years (Impulse, Superboy, and Ray griping about comics being cancelled, then glaring at Robin); A five-pack of Colonia; JLA/Authority (nifty, but nothing more than an update of Batman: Holy Terror, really); new issues of Dork!, Castle Waiting, Paradise Too, and other stuff that I'm too lazy to go look up right now. :-)
Anyway, it's off to clean up some more around here, followed by lunch and some episodes of Andromeda on Tivo.
