How is it that a movie that sucked so much could have a jingle that catchy?
Anyway, it's Halloween. In previous years, I've dressed like either a serial killer, a clone, or my evil twin. This year, as a change of pace, I'm dressing as a clone of my evil twin dressing up as a serial killer. It's meta.
Anyway,
iroshi and
mcredneck arrived safe and sound last night, and are quite fun people.
And I finished Tricky Business last night. Dave Barry learned a lot of lessons from Big Trouble, and this book doesn't shy away from violence the way the other one did (in fact, there's stuff that will horrify some of his more squeamish readers, no doubt). I've now finally started Expendable, by James Alan Gardner (since I'll be traveling next week, I don't intend to start any books that aren't mmpbs).
Today is more Cox Hall Opening crap. And meetings. Blah.
Ditto tomorrow.
I also probably need to start packing tomorrow, as Saturday is swamped. Much as I love some aspects of travel (like actually getting there), a lot of it is a pain in the ass.

Date: 2002-10-31 10:31 am (UTC)And as far as a schedule goes, some things are still up in the air. I suspect that Tuesday will be my free day -- I'm signed up for a two-day training thing Monday and Tuesday, but I have every reason to believe it will be a waste of my time, and am likely to get "sick" on Tuesday (since my boss doesn't fly in until Wednesday, that's another factor). That's the only daytime I see opening up. As for evenings, at this point, none of them are booked, although I'm still attempting to coordinate with two friends who moved to Chicago this summer. But I'm pretty sure Tuesday is likely to be my big free day.
And I definitely would love to take advantage of your tour guide services, if any of those times are likely to work out.

Date: 2002-10-31 11:26 am (UTC)Of course, with the Chicago CityPass, that doesn't matter as much.
But anyway, Tuesday's my best weekday – no RPG at night, and generally no specific deadlines. So as long as I don't schedule anything on that day, and I get my book review out of the way in advance and don't need to spend the day reading, I should be available any old time.
What kinds of things are you interested in doing? Do you want to do touristy stuff (museums, the Sears Tower, the Board of Trade, etc.) or just see the city? There are used bookstores galore, some neat architecture tours (Chicago is very snobby about its architecture; too bad it's too late in the season for a good boat tour), the Magnificent Mile (overpriced shopping and lots of traffic, but fun to cruise for a look at the downtown area), the Lincoln Park Zoo (which is always free)… give me an idea of what you want to see, and I can fill a day pretty easily.
New people + Chicago = fun.

Date: 2002-10-31 10:01 pm (UTC)Archetecture doesn't do it for me as much -- I like having tall buildings, of course, but I'm not too snobby about it. And since Mom lives in Scottsdale, I get more than my share of Wright.
Tomorrow, when I'm at work and have my travel and other info in front of me, I'll drop you a line with actual contact info (like the hotel phone number and all that), so we can attempt to coordinate something.
