So I didn't see the Leonids, since I have work, and since someone needed to herd Elayna this morning. But I saw the most in-fucking-credible sunrise after the bus came. Bands of beautiful red, pink, white, and blue, thanks to clouds and polution. Whatever else I'll say about capitalism and the industrial age, we get much better sunrises than people had centuries ago.

Date: 2002-11-19 06:08 am (UTC)'cept after a volcano erupts ... or a meteor hits the planet (not a dinosaur devestating one ... smaller, so it just kicks up a lot of dust) ... or ... um ... well something else that kicks a lot of crap into the atmosphere. can't think of any others right now.

The California fires
The Kuwaiti oil well fires
The subsaharan drought of the 80's
Last but not least HAARP...
All of these gave rise to *incredible* sunsets.

Date: 2002-11-19 12:42 pm (UTC)Actually, sunsets are often spectacular in the desert due to sand/dust in the air. The most incredible moonrise I've ever seen was near Needles, CA. I swear to god the moon was blood red. So red I didn't realize it was the moon at first, I thought it was the taillights of cars ahead of me!
