So I didn't see the Leonids, since I have work, and since someone needed to herd Elayna this morning. But I saw the most in-fucking-credible sunrise after the bus came. Bands of beautiful red, pink, white, and blue, thanks to clouds and polution. Whatever else I'll say about capitalism and the industrial age, we get much better sunrises than people had centuries ago.

I think the single worst thing I ever learned is this... I haven't really enjoyed a sunrise or sunset since.

'cept after a volcano erupts ... or a meteor hits the planet (not a dinosaur devestating one ... smaller, so it just kicks up a lot of dust) ... or ... um ... well something else that kicks a lot of crap into the atmosphere. can't think of any others right now.

I bet the people in NY who's car got hit by one in 1992 are saying just that :)

Mt St. Helens
Mt. Pinatubo
The California fires
The Kuwaiti oil well fires
The subsaharan drought of the 80's
Last but not least HAARP...

All of these gave rise to *incredible* sunsets.

Um ... wait, that would be too close.

Washington DC should be around right, eh?

Bwahaha! Preferably very suddenly and unpredictably, and directly beneath the White House. When Bush and Cheney are both there. *g*

Yes, it's nice to at least get one good thing out of it, isn't it?

Actually, sunsets are often spectacular in the desert due to sand/dust in the air. The most incredible moonrise I've ever seen was near Needles, CA. I swear to god the moon was blood red. So red I didn't realize it was the moon at first, I thought it was the taillights of cars ahead of me!

Heh. Yes, that would be really excellent. So you've also noticed that the US gov't. is now a wholly owned subsidiary of big business?

Needles' claim to fame, yup. :)

It's a pretty dismal place, to be honest. But they do have pretty sun/moon sets/rises. :)

Yes, I intended to make sure that was part of the order. Glad you caught that 'fore I actually faxed over the workorder!
