Guess what? Fox has announced a nine-disc super-special edition Aliens set.

Which makes those of us who splurged on the Aliens set they released three years ago shit out of luck. Serves us right for being early supporters, I guess.

If Hudson were here, he'd want to grease those rat-fuck, son of a bitch executives right now.

In better, news, Sci-Fi Wire is reporting that Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean are working on a Labyrinth-esque straight-to-video film (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] taraljc for the link). Needless to say, this'll be a pre-order. :-)

I cannot possibly imagine WANTING nine discs worth of supplementary Aliens material. What could possibly be on them? The security videotapes from the studio from when it was being filmed? Six hours of alien-costume-painting footage, followed by two hours of watching-alien-costume-paint-dry footage? Every scrap of CGI testing ever done on the film?

I like watching films. Then I like moving on to more films. Rarely do I care about supplementary material. "Aliens" was a great film, and I'd happily watch it again. But NINE DISCS worth of extras? Ye flaming gods, my life is too short.

Adam, it sounds like DVD sets are going to be like computers. The best one will always be the next oen out. You can't spend all your time waiting for the final version. Just buy one you like and laugh at the fools who keep waiting for a perfect set that never, ever arrives.

The thought of watching a Gaiman-written sequel to Labrynth (sp?) is awe-inspiring. I can't wait to rent the bloody thing....
