Spoilers Ahoy!

Buffy:

First a few quibbles:

A few drops of Xander's blood was enough to let out an übervamp, but all of Jonathan's wasn't? WTF?

Also, we know the First is back. So do the characters. We all know that the First can look like anyone who has died (aside -- does that stupid limitation make sense to anyone?). And everyone knows that both Spike and Buffy have died. So shouldn't everyone in the house be at least a little bit suspicious of any one-on-one conversation with them? Shouldn't they be suspicious of their two one-on-one conversations with each other? It's not that I think any of those moments were the first, but I'd like to at least see the characters taking proper precautions (someone should touch Buffy and Spike before any conversation).

And the Principal Wood/Spike connection was telegraphed beyond belief.

As for the good, I really liked the fact that Wood didn't just flip to the Dark Side. He knows that the First is evil, and doesn't seem ready to just kill the Slayer because she knows Spike.

And Andrew and the First had two great scenes. Who'd have thought his character could develop away from the silly caricature so believably (unlike Wesley's, for example)? And his reaction to Xander's Gay announcement, although extremely over the top, was still funny.

The Xander/Ashanti thing was cute. As was the bidet line.

I loved the running gags with the Chinese slayerette, and the predictions Buffy and Xander made about their dates.

Overall, a fun episode, if flawed.

Smallville:

Only one major flaw -- heat vision strong enough to melt metal would do more than sting a hand eight feet away.

Lex's brother is an interesting character. I liked the convoluted "who's betraying whom" plot twists (I'm a sucker for such things - I own "Wild Things" on DVD, and actually watch it for more than the three-way), and it's nice to see a situation where both Lex and Lionel kind of win (Lionel has to know something major about Clark by now). Lots of anvils around Clark (the conversations about being raised by folks other than his parents, etc), and major slash potential with Clark's reaction to Lex's little bro. Could he have been any more jealous at seeing Lex with another man?

Just a solid show, even if the supporting cast, as always, got the short shrift. You almost wonder why they even had Pete, Chloe, and the Kents this episode -- with about three minor changes, they could have given them all the week off.

Anyway, off to the 10:00 meeting.

My only question about Buffy last night...

How does one fight vampires when one is nine months pregnant, anyway?

My thought to this was that she must've had the child before she was Chosen.

If he was four when she died, that makes him right about 30 now. I'm sorry, he doesn't look 30.

Buffy: Maybe Spike's incredible spillage overflowed to Xander's session. Spike's blood was more than enough, so it didnt need as much for Xander? It's more than just appearing as the dead person. The First gets all their knowledge. It didn't know Jonathan was anemic until after his death. And yeah. I imagien the Summers household is a whole lot more touchy-feely now. Did you notice just how much stuff Giles was touching this episode? Like, he went out of his way to straighten stuff up around him. Poor Xander still has his reputation intact. He's a demon magnet.

Smallville: I want a little bit of closure on the fact that Mr. Kent shook hands with Lex and smiled, and _then_ got cold-cocked! There has to be some resentment there.
