So, I've got 150 LJ interests (and I've ranted before on how stupid the 150 cap is, so I won't repeat it here). Looking at my user info page, three of them are unique (all authors):

Kara Dalkey: Kara's actually my second-favorite Scribbly (behind Brust), and given her success in both genre fic (getting published in hardcover is something, at least), as well as her shift to YA lit, you'd think others would be fans of her (although part of this goes back to the 150-interest cap). Her two Sagamore books are that rarest of breeds -- genuinely funny "humorous" fantasy written by someone other than Pratchett or Holt. She's told some amazingly complex tales (Genpei comes to mind), and two of my favorite YA books -- Little Sister, and The Heavenward Path.

Stephen Dedman: Another writer who's been strongly influenced by Eastern mythology in his writings. He's written two urban fantasies (The Art of Arrow-Cutting, and Shadows Bite, and one very nifty Heinlein-esque body-switching, time-traveling, genre-confusing sci-fi book, Foreign Bodies. Why no one else lists him is a mystery to me.

and

Steven Piziks is the real name of Steven Harper (a unique interest on [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's interest list). Under either name, he's talented sci-fi writer, but the books he wrote under his own name are the ones I've enjoyed the most, which is why I used the Piziks interest (he actually still publishes under that name, too, just to keep things nice and confusing -- at least Megan Lindholm had the grace to stop releasing new books when Robin Hobb was born).

So, what are your unique interests?

There's a 150 interest cap? I had no idea.

My "uniques" are model Alesha Oreskovich, shown in the accompanying userpic, and Caballistics, Inc, a groovy horror series written by Gordon Rennie and currently running in 2000 AD.

I only have two uniques out of 150 (it is a stupid cap): spiked platform heels (cuz they be sexay) and gaijin.com...which is [livejournal.com profile] gnat23's boyfriend's website. I've been reading his journal for over three years and it's one of the things that actually prompted me to start my own here.

I don't have any that are unique, but I do have some that are only held by two people:

Alpha Chi Gamma
Joe Famous
Shooting Elephants
Soundxchange
The Swimmies

I actually have a bunch of unique interests, and they surprise me.

Crystallised roses are nummy, and impossible to get hold of, so they made my list. Flakmag is my favourite little zine, so I am sad that nobody else shares that interest. Husky scotsmen are just... well, it's kind of an [livejournal.com profile] ifmud injoke, plus I date one. Thai westerns are exactly that, westerns set in thailand. I are really shocked I am the only person to list these, but I guess it's a fairly specialised interest. And toy snakes... well, they're just cool and very cute.

I have others, but they're not very interesting.

Good question.

I have Stubbs BBQ and Stubbs mopping sauce, cause I was going through a bbq phase when I last worked on my interests list. Yummy yummy.

The martellan empire- from my gaming world the martellan empire is the place my game world design started from. It's a small empire that, because of geography and technology has a stranglehold on trade. Their sailing technology is up to what we had at about the time of the civil war, they can make boats both big and fast, and aren't limited by wind direction at all. Most of the rest of the world is just discovering the wonders of the lanteen rigged sail. But their real advantage is magic. They make extensive use of magic to make their lives better, but the hidden catch is that they take a shortcut that involves blood sacrifice to power all that magic. It's all about the means justifying the end. It looks wonderful, but under the surface, it's evil. Seductive, purposeful evil, not the random "because he's evil" sort of evil so common in games and fantsy fiction.

Shock, shock! Mine are theatre things.

My only unique interest is the Shaw Festival, which actually shocks me a bit. It's a theatre festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, dedicated to Shaw and his contemporaries. My favorite actor just relocated there.

Which brings me to the other, which is now held by one other user (an LJ community devoted to Stratford): Ben Campbell, the aforementioned favorite actor. And since he's likely not to be at Stratford again, he could become a unique interest for me again before too long. He's an incredible actor, able to illuminate Shakespearean text by nothimg more than a glance or a reaction. He's wonderful to watch when he's *not* speaking. *happy sigh*

7-day candles: Seven African Powers candles, Money Drawing, the kind in glass that burn for several days

appalachian witchcraft: The traditional kind, that involves things like stump water and graveyards at midnight (which is actually more of a lowland thing)

candle shops: Hoodoo shops, like Rondo's downtown. Where you find 7-day candles, also things like "Stop Evil" floor wash.

divine possession: Self-explanatory, I should think. Part of some religious traditions, including mine.

fairy faith: The belief in the Fay as nature/ancestor spirits common to Celtic countries and imported here by immigrants.

imagined worlds: Self-explanatory

katuah: The southern Appalachian bioregion, from the Cherokee word for their territory. Also a dialect of Tsilagi (Cherokee)

mayhayley lancaster: A midwife and fortune teller who lived in Heard County until she died in 1955. Involved as a witness for the prosecution in the famous "Murder In Coweta County" case. People still leave money (a dollar and a dime, which is what she charged) on her grave site.

professional psychic: What I used to do for a living.

running with wolves: Reference to the book by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, who is also listed as an interest

sarsen and sarsen stones: My craft name, and the type of sandstone that megaliths like Stonehenge are made of. Also somewhat miscalled "druid stone".

southern witchcraft: Encompasses hoodoo, appalachian witchcraft, rootworking, and a lot more.

rootworkers: practitioners of hoodoo, ie, African-derived folk magic

techno-amazons: "...and other science fiction themes" A 'zine I have not yet created.

the long lost friend: A book of charms and folk remedies published in 1820. Attributed with magical power in and of itself; for instance, that if you carry a copy of it you will not die violently, and that it bestows other protections on its owner. Yes, I have a copy of it.

Oooo, nifty question! Let's see:

gipf project: The abstract strategy board game series by Kris Burm, consisting of Gipf, Tamsk, Zertz and Dvonn (which reminds me, I really do need to pick up the other two eventually...).

lonely trailer: Brilliant Champaign-Urbana, Illinois band of the late 80's and early 90's.

master snickup's cloak: Beautiful, hysterical sendup of medieval-based fairy tales ("Once upon a time, it was the Middle Ages"); written by Alexander Theroux, gorgeously illustrated by Brian Froud.

plastic nebraska: Ithaca, New York band, noted for their use of rhythm accordion.

robert abbott: Game and puzzle maker who's been doing this for over forty years; best known for his ingenious non-linear mazes (head over to "a href="www.logicmazes.com">Logic Mazes for a sampling).

thai green chicken curry: The ultimate comfort food. Well, actually, coq au vin is probably the ultimate comfort food, but four other people list that one, so....

I refused to list most of the authors that I am interested in, because trying to pick which 150 i wanted would have taken forever. And I'm lazy.

My lone unique interest is Tepeyolotli, the Aztec jaguar deity. I was disappointed that nobody else is a big fan.

My only unique interest is "tarpo" but there used to be more. Someone else must've added them recently...

I remember when they added that 150 cap.

It made me go a little more generic in my interests, which has made so many people (who I don't honestly find interesting enough to add back) add me. I keep saying I need to edit them. Ah, someday...

I cleared any unique interest early on, but I have a list beyond the list...in other words, since I think 150 is a hokey cap, I list another couple hundred in my bio section, and I have no idea how many of those are unique. On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] forestcats and I are the only folks who list Dungeonmaster, an audience participation fantasy roleplaying play as an interest when last I looked.

As to Dalkey: I have 4 books on the pile to be read; Dedman, The Art of Arrow-Cutting is pending reading also. I may move them up a bit based on your recommendation.

If there WASN'T a 150 cap, I'd still be entering interests, and I wouldn't actually have entries in my LJ.

My only unique one is "Minna Bromberg." She's a highly political traveling folk-rock singer/songwriter, currently local to Chicago. I met her through friends and was immediately intimidated and impressed — she's very strong-willed and comes across as having a powerful personality. I haven't seen her in a couple of years, but listen to her two self-released studio albums religiously. Audio samples here (http://www.minnabromberg.com/fan/fan.shtml) at her website — she also has a couple of tracks at MP3.com, but they aren't among her best songs, IMHO.

ewan's voice - ::jealous::
snugglebuddies
social lubricant
mime abuse used to be unique, but 'song agreed with me on that one.

Sadly it seem the only truly unique interest I have right now is
scott shaw! and for all I know that could be because most people don't use his !. A lot of the interests I have right now are quite generic though and I didn't even reach the 150 cap.

I'm going to redo my interest list this afternoon, just really thinking what I really am interested in and letting it be my interest list. Maybe I'll then put my other 2000000000 interests in my bio.

Yes... thanks. :)

Let's see, I have:

Hannah Frankel, one of my best friends and personal "goddesses."

Lyle Lanigan, the pseudonym my best friend uses for his solo music project.

Souls Of Earth, the name of the band my best friend is in.

Freak chicks, because I like chicks who are freaks. :-)

Waking Dreaming Theater Company, the name of my theater group.

Die MTV Die, because I hate MTV. I borrowed this one from a button you can buy at unamerican.com (http://www.unamerican.com).

I think that's it.
