Saw [livejournal.com profile] shadesong off on her train. She'll be cruisin' within twelve hours.

I'm now getting ready for my 8:30 meeting. Which includes the Vice-Provost (head of our entire division), as well as other people above me on the chain. And I'm going to be suggesting that the decision they came to won't work. Yeah, this'll be a fun Friday.

In other news, why didn't anyone tell me about The Thackery T. Lambshead Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases? I mean, any anthology with Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Kage Baker, and Michael Bishop (not to mention Michael Moorcock, China Miéville, Jeffrey Ford, and Gahan Wilson) writing about fake diseases has to worth a look.

And in movie news, Johnny English is pulling in about twice as many positive reviews as Bad Boys II. My schadenfreude is boundless.

Off to finish getting this report ready for the meeting. Back in a couple of hours, if I'm not canned.

Good luck, dude. Having only to report to a PM, in my case, is one thing. It's somehow different when you're going up to People of Authority.

Check out the website for the book: http://www.lambsheadguide.com/.
There's previews of some of the maladies diagnosed within.

One of the twisted minds behind this is Jeff VanderMeer, author of the excellent City of Saints and Madmen: The Book of Ambergris (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1587154366/ref=lpr_g_1/104-1133741-2691925?v=glance&s=books). Deliciously weird, exotic fantasy novellas set in the crumbling metropolis Ambergris, on the banks of the River Moth. If you like the kind of stuff that China Mieville is doing, this is for you; even if you don't dig Mieville, you might like it anyway.

Johnny English received wretched reviews over here. We definitely missed it. Too bad; we like Rowan Atkinson, but I haven't liked him in a film role since The Tall Guy.

Oh yes, I forgot Four Weddings. I have no clue what Bad Boys is. The reviews here for Rat Race were pretty poor. We haven't seen Scooby Doo either. But then, we live 18 miles from the nearest cinema, so it's a big deal to see a movie -- it had better be good. Either that, or we see it on an airplane. ;)

You liked him in Rat Race?

Where all he did was look stupid and his big joke was molesting a child?

I guess his had a variety of schtick to work with:bad speech/language issues, narco, stupidity, bad clothes, magicalpowers(getting on a speeding train).

Of course I saw it, it had Seth Green in it. Lady Un loves Seth Green.

We saw it prior to national release, as we have industry friends. I knew it would bomb, as it was such a mishmash. It got less believable by the minute.
