You know, I LOVED that song the first time I heard it. I thought it was primarily making fun of Bob Dylan's sometimes-obtuse lyrics and bizarre metaphors. It wasn't until the second time through that I realized he was just spouting palindromes. That made it a lot less funny to me, mostly because it meant Al himself wasn't responsible for coming up with inspired weirdness like the line "Lonely Tylenol, not a banana baton!"

I still find it catchy, but I just don't enjoy it as much as I did when I thought it was just crazy strangeness.

My *other* most favorite Al song.

"Hey... you've got weasels on your face."

First time I heard it I was gaping, no joke, gaping at my CD player in awe that he could fit all those palindromes into a song AND make fun of Bob at the same time. The guy's got a brain the size of a planet. A pretty big planet.

I've commented elsewhere about similar feelings on the Zappa "style parody." Just... oh... my... Gawwwd.

Al is a fucking genius. And instead of using it to do boring things like architecture, he uses his genius to entertain us all.

I've been an Al fan since 'In 3D', and he never ceases to amaze me.

My favorite palindrome from that song is, of course

"Lisa Bonet ate no basil"

Heh.

"A local boy kicked me in the butt last week
I just smiled at him and turned the other cheek
I really don't care, in fact I wish him well
'Cause I'll be laughing my head off when he's burning in hell"

Yes...yes he does make everything better.

I was addicted to the eBay song for a while, it was the catchy tune, combined with the funny lyrics... I was playing it over and over again at work, thank God for headphones!
