Wow. The following titles are ending with the big "War" crossover:
Crux
The First
Meridian
Mystic
The Path
Ruse
Scion
Sigil
Solus

CG is spinning this as "always intended," which is pretty clearly horseshite (since at least one title, Solus, is ending before two issues that have been solicited get released). And they've fired about twelve more folks, including Ron Marz, which is too bad, as Marz's only good work came with this company, and he pretty much gave his all for them.

Anyone else remember Valiant?

Very clearly, yes. You think this will go the same way?

Damn sorry to hear that. What's your take on the comics industry as a whole?

Creative peak, huh? Mind if I ask you what makes you say that? I haven't read comics in a long time, so I don't even know what's being put out there these days.

When does this "War" storyline begin? Based on how CG books work, I bet I can pick up Path/Mystic/Scion/Ruse/Crux and return to CG for this final storyline.

I see that Route 666 survives this galut... that's nice. Bedard and Moline have been killing themselves on that to make it good.

I'm sure once I get over to Newsarama and Weiland and such... all answers will be found.

Not with a bang, but with a whimper...

I'm not shocked by this news at all. I haven't bought a Crossgen title in several months. Most of their books lost their lustre quite some time ago, as far as I am concerned.
As for the solicitation deal? Maybe they were doing a fakeout like Malibu Comics did that time, before Marvel bought them out. Anyone remember that?

I remember Valiant! They did "Archer & Armstrong", which I loved!

I never read Valiant, but was for a while a CG fan. Then they packed it in with the trades, and overexpanded thier lines. Looks like the only thing really left will be Negation, Route 666, and another book I can't remember the title of. Yeah, its all bullstuff.

I pretty much stopped getting CG books. I needed to trim back my spending cash and most of them were the first to go.

The kicker for me is the fact that Gina Villa is leaving. Gina. You know, Mark's cousin who co-created the whole universe and was second in command. Gina's gone. This is more than fiannces. Some serious shit is going down somewhere...

son. of. a. bitch. I'm outta comics again. Guess it's more money for wizkids stuff.

Ellis reminded me last week (not personally... via one of his diepunyhumans bits) that Herr Crossgen himself stated ages ago that he'd financially cover the company's ass for five years, and after that, if it wasn't the number one comic company in print, he'd axe it.

L o L,
really liked some of this stuff

Less savvy? I interpretted it as 'more arrogant than thou' really. I think he fancies himself enough of a clever businessman to figure 'here's the goal: number one in five or bust.'

Considering how the numbers have gone, I'd have to say that, his faithlessness aside, he's made the right decision. Comics as a business is once again floundering, with only the top two keeping their heads above water.

I can't say I'll be inviting the git out for beers anytime soon... but I can't really blame anyone for getting out while the getting is good, especially if their heart isn't really in it anymore. He said number one, and he's not. If it's that important to him, I say arivederci, Marco.

Meanwhile, I'll just hang in there, hoping the indies hang in there long enough to bring this crap around.

Maybe after Marvel runs out of characters to make movies out of, we can get back to the job of reminding North Americans that comics aren't just capes and masks. *sigh*

L o L,
a little down on it
