I've finally become one of those people, although since my work owns my cell phone, I won't be using it as much as some folks (none of the voice mail memes, or anything else). It's a nifty one -- a Motorola T730. Color screen, nifty sound, etc. All good. The only problem? With every other Motorola 7xx series phone, I could just go to the Motorola website and buy ringtones, which then get sent to me via text-message. With the 730, I have to use Verizon's service. Which means that I have to log on to their incomprehensible website, look at the categories of ringtones (with names like "Ringster" and "Modtones"), and buy access to the software (which is listed as "one use for $1.99," which I assume means one ring from their set for that much money, but who knows. I might get charged for each call), without having any fucking way to find out what songs are in the library. Grr. I know, it's a work phone, and I should be happy with a free phone, and the coverage is the most important thing, but I'm still irked. Anyone out there use Verizon and know of any place to actually find a listing of the Get It Now tones?

Baron's phone has one ring that is a clucking chicken, and another with generic hillbilly music and animal sounds...I kid you not.

There are voicemail memes?! Sounds like something I'm glad I've missed. :)

"One use for $1.99" means that you pay $1.99 and get to download it once. If you lose it somehow (phone crash, power failure) and need to re-download it, you pay another $1.99.

Over here, mobiles can be cheaper than landlines. That's one reason why we use ours so much.

You have to pay for ringtones? Astonishing... No free downloads for extra ones?

I use Verizon, and had the same problem.

You pay per ringtone. I like ringtones, so I found the company that I thought had the most talented contentmonkey* and bought a ten pack. I can browse through them any time I want. I think I still have a few left.

I found all the names of the companies (modtones, midiringtones, etc.), and googled. Funny enough, most of them are owned by two companies, though they maintain different names and different libraries. I then found their respective sites, most of which had browsable ringtones. I'm pretty certain that I still have all the links at home, if you'd like me to shoot you the urls tonight.

* (Unfortunately, only one of the two contentmonkeys at midiringtones now seems to be very good, so it's always a crapshoot as to whether a favourite song will be exectuted beautifully or destroyed painfully.)

Oh, here there are a lot of places to download them for very cheap -- one-time charge. Ian had the Angel theme song on his phone for a while. :)

Trust me, it's quite possible. ;) Especially given how many people are bad about charging their phones--a lot of phones lose ringtones and such if the battery dies and stays dead for any extended period of time.

That must have been the funny number you were using yesterday. I wondered about that.

BTW, I realized after waking up yesterday that I was terribly naughty and left several things at your place. Box o' paint, I think, and pyrex bowl, and whatnot. I'll apologize abjectly, and...working tonight, but will come fetch if you need them out of the way.

What are the blindnesses in your life? We all have them. Where is your vision narrowed and clouded? What is the darkness you find within yourself?

Makes sense, since it's company minutes. Are you allowed to make or receive calls that are not work-related?

*nods* Fair enough.

Thing about having a mobile phone is that it's only a nuisance if you allow it to be one. It bothers me when people complain about their cell phones and say that they can't get away from the ringing. I mean, people can choose to shut off the ringer or the phone, or go to vibrate. They can choose not to answer calls.

I don't know. I don't receive enough calls on my phone to be annoyed, I guess. Still, I think it's just another example of allowing our property to get a hold on us.

*gets off soapbox*

Nothing I need urgently, just wanted to make sure stuff wasn't in the way. The bowl still had a bit of tiramisu in it, so it's probably with the dirty dishes. On the plus side, there's probably still a full bowl of tiramisu in the freezer *g*.

I usually only use the download software that allows a demo, that way I can browse before I buy. I used the service called Yamaha Ringtones to get my "Ironman" ringtone. :)
